Pompey vs. Wycombe

Fratton

9/10/12

Pompey v WW

Pompey welcome Wycombe to Fratton for a first ever competitive fixture, it is another chance to tour the JP trophy.

Vital Quotes:

So, a first visit to Fratton for Wycombe, a couple of their players are recognizable, caretaker manager Gareth Ainsworth sticks in my mind for scoring against us for the original Wimbledon, at Selhurst parl, it was in our promotion season if I recall, the dons won 2-1 but the after match kebab was nice!

Another name is Gary Doherty, ex-Norwich and Spurs man, once close to signing for us before Spurs nipped in.

In this our debut season in this trophy, Wycombe must be viewed as a good chance to progress for us, they of course should not be underestimated as they search for a scalp.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey may ring a few changes, our squad doesn't give much room for manouvering but players such as Gyepes and Williamson may earn a rest.

Player to watch: Buzsaky

Our Hungarian has a couple of weeks to settle in now, Appleton has stated he will start tomorrow night, I he hits the ground running we could be in for a treat.

Wycombe Team News:

Wycombe may rest a few themselves, Ainsworth himself is 39 and will be feeling it, while Doherty and Leon Johnson are both in the veteran stages of heir career.
McClure tweaked a hamstring in their weekend win whle Lewis also is doubtful.

Keeper Bull is vying to return after missing 5 games,

Player to watch: Scowen

A loan spell at Eastbourne has done him the power of good and he now looks a key player.

Won't out of town in time to make this one - more's the pity as I think this will be a good game; although all the others I've thought will be trouncing's Pompey have lost or struggled. Wycombe sites seem to think a draw is the best they can hope for; most don't think they will get that. I'd like to see that old revolutionary formation to start with - that much maligned 4,4,2 that the players seem to understand - at least for the first half. I hope Appy doesn't pull any political selection stunts for this game- he does seem to like to prove a point and he does have one. But following a coment from Rug last month I did a check and most FL clubs run a circa 20-23 man squad and it seems to me the in's n outs have mostly stopped and the players are taking it seriously. Oh and I'd like to see Howard take and score a penalty important for him and Pompey.
