Pompey? V Plymouth

Pompey? Kick off a new season tonight away to Plymouth, a side that emphasises with our position.

Vital Quotes:

I've been dreading doing this preview, Pompey? As we know them are no more, the poison in the clubs system is still active and showing no sign of letting up just yet.

We go into this game with one senior professional, he himself is a non-contract player.

One consolation is that our opponents are Plymouth, they are 200 odd mails away but truly are decent neighbours.

Michael Appleton has at least spelled out what his season expectations are, a thrashing tonight and relegation!

Plymouth Team News:

A couple of familiar faces in the pilgrim squad, Bhasera was with us 3 years back, he was one of the first victims of our financial situation however, never properly putting pen to paper.

Paris Cowan-Hall is also on the bench after coming in from Woking.

Player to watch: Purse

The ex-Birmingham has more experience the entire Pompey team added up!

Pompey Team News:

Simon Eastwood will stand between the sticks with daunting task of defending our goal, in front of him will at least be the reassuring figure of Ashley Westwood, our assistant manager is supposed to have hung up his boots, our situation says otherwise!

Our longest serving player in Ashley Harris, all 5 appearances long will get the start he craves, while the rest of the side will be made up of the development squad, one bonus is that we should have plenty of youthful enthusiasm!

Player to watch: Eastwood

I get the feeling our debutant goalie may be very involved tonight!

Match Facts & Stats

Plymouth had a poor pre-season, losing all 4 games.

Ref Watch:

The grim reaper.

Next Fixtures:

Bournemouth at fratton on Saturday, golden share permitting.

err.... we are concentrating on the league. That's it - no other positive thoughts.

Hard to get even a little excited isn't it?

The only problem I can see is that Michael Appelton has given up! Maybe yes, I would do the same if I where in his shoes, but at least I won't do that publicly. Or could this be a tactical move?

I'm going for a 4-0 drubbing. Yay... I'm now "super-powered pessimist"!

the game and result does not matter one way or the other
Terraceman
I agree PM. It surprised me that he forecast relegation for sure and a loss tonight. Hardly the thing to inspire the troops.
PFCblue
Appleton's message was not directed at the young kids - It was intended for Chanrai - Do you really think a bloke that has stood by this club through thick and thick and thicker no longer gives a toss - MA is the one and only shining light we have. Please don't start picking holes in him.. We have very little left FFS - If there is anybody we must stand by it id Michael Appleton
Chix
I love the word 'drubbing'.
Et_tu_Pompeii
Well a 3-0 defeat but the lads did us proud - If watching 11 kids give their all for 90 minutes is what we are in for all season - I 4-1 will be more than happy .. guts, determination & pride .. might not win many matches ... but will win a few hearts.. PUP
Chix
No Chix I don't think that! He was obviously exasperated but sometimes it's better things are said privately to the relevant parties rather conducting messages via the media.
PFCblue
I kind of agree Chix, but this is where the 10 point deduction becomes a real kick in the teeth so instead of the Kids battling on a level playing field, they're not. I worry it will be to much for them. HOWEVER, just think of the feeling if they/we pulled it off!
