Pompey vs. Derby

Fratton

21/4/12

15:00

Pompey's last stand

Pompey's unlikely battle for survival goes on into the last week of the season, possibly 2 weeks longer than most thought!

Vital Quotes:

So, the last home game of the season, Pompey host mid-table Derby county, safe from any relegation battle of their own and off of the play-off spots, almost ideal opposition in the circumstances.

Pompey need to win, pure and simple, that however will not be enough, Bristol need to get no more than one point for this turmoiltuous season to end in a winner takes all next week.

Barnsley are the team all in blue will have one eye on this afternoon, thay have hardly pulled up trees themselves this season, sitting one place above Bristol, what Pompey need is for them to do better than their current form suggests they are capable of, 1 point from 15.

Still, Derby will no doubt turn up and roll over for us, so lets do our part first.

Pompey Team News:

No Maguire as he is not allowed to play against his parent club, no Scapuzzi either as he opted to got to Man City's reserves rather than our bench.

Etuhu is available after missing midweek, while Futacs will be favourite to replace Maguire, Ashley Harris is also pushing hard for a starting berth.

Player to watch: Varney

May seem a strange choice to some, but Reg has been nowhere near his best since he returned from injury, goaless and off the pace, he is better than that, but he knows he will not be here next season, but a good game will tempt someone to come in for him rather than a bad one.

Derby Team News:

Ward is the biggest doubt for Derby, while Naylor and Davies look doubtful.

Player to watch: Bryson

A driving force from midfiled who chips in with a few goals.

Match Facts & Stats

Last time Pompey beat Derby was in the premier league, we were headed for an Fa cup final back in January 2008, how times have changed!
