Pompey vs. Crystal Palace

Fratton

17/4/12

Pompey look to defy odds

Pompey's defiance to relegation takes its next test against Palace, the ideal team to play really, safe from the drop, no chance of the play-offs.

Vital Quotes:

Pompeys highly unlikely victory on saturday, just adds to our highly unlikely bid for survival, Pompey have struggled to string two wins together all season, last weeks defeat to Millwall a real teastament to that fact.

Palace though have properly settled into midtable obscurity, their play-off hopes ended about a month ago, it truly is the ideal time to meet such a team.

Pompey Team News:

Dave Kitson has played himself into contention for a starting spot, Varney looks most likely to give way, Futacs also did himself the power of good with his late, late winner, one of them will surely usurp the out of sorts Reg.

Ashley Harris is another who caught the eye after his 45 minutes, he may well be our future, but also our present starting tomorrow.

Player to watch: Norris

Simply because I reckon he will score tomorrow!

Crystal Palace Team News:

Dikcagoi is the only major absentee from the Palace team, he has a thigh injury, Gardner and Williams have already seen their seasons end, otherwise Freedman has pretty much a full squad to play with,

Player to watch: Zaha

Has a great bit of form towards the end of 2011 to catch the eye, reamins a big threat.

Match Facts & Stats

A goaless draw at Selhurst this season, while Pompey won at Fratton just over a year ago, the bloke who went to Leicester got the goal.

Ref Watch:

Mick Russell for the next 3 games.

Well my head says we can't avoid the drop, but my heart is saying 'What if . . .'

I'm afraid the performance against Millwall convinced me Pompey don't have the character to avoid the drop; so not holding my breath. Also I think a division drop would see a few of the higher earners leave voluntarily.
Russellm
got this feeling that kitson will start, it will 'probably' be him or varney and if it means that harris comes in to start out wide then i would take the 'lesser of two evils' at the moment and put kitson in up top as the lone striker to allow harris in for varney.
altho not sure etuhu will start either so that might redeem varney?
