Pompey vs. Reading

Fratton

16/8/11

19:45

Third time lucky?

Reading roll into Fratton tomorrow evening, no doubt fancing their chances after an impresive win away to promotion favourites Leicester, that and Pompey's slow start will encourage their fans.

Vital Quotes:

Well Benjani has signed and is available, he has cited a lack of fitness however, hopefully he willl not start on half batteries, that would do his game no favours and make him more susceptible to injury.

Reading puled off somewhat of a shock last weekend, beating Leicester by 2 goals on their turf is no mean feat, Pompey however will probably have in the back of their minds the defeat at the Madjeski last spring, the game was ruined by Rocha's sending off, it was also the end of our play-off push and the catalyst for a fine end of season run by themselves.

Pompey Team News:

Well does Benji start? Kanu is highly unlikely to after playing on saturday, Kitson will probably come straight back in, hopefully in a 4-4-2 after the formation on saturday made us look somewhat one dimensional.

Young Ryan Williams did himself no harm again after his 10 minutes, he looks an asset form the bench so far.

Ricardo Rocha will no doubt be smarting after missing out against Brighton, Mokoena however defended stoutly on the day. Another player eyeing a starting slot will be JHason pearce who is finally legible after suspension.

Player to watch: Benjani

Hardly a difficult choice, he is a hero at Fratton, hopefully his fitness levels are high enough to make a favourable impression.

Reading Team News:

Jay Tabb is available for the first time this season for Reading, he like Pearce for Pompey paid the price for a play-off sending off.

Manset came off at the weekend, this turns out to have been a precautionary measure with him suffering cramp.

Player to watch: Manset

Ok it's only 2 games in, but he has a goal a game record so far, the Frenchman is revelling in his role now Shane Long has departed.

Match Facts & Stats

Everyone remembers the 7-4 game a few years back, Benjani got a hat-trick in that one and Kitson also netted for Reading, almost a year to the day however we drew 1-1 with Ciftci netting our goal only for Jimmy Kebe who had given Carl Dickinson twisted blood to equalise with a couple of minutes remaining.

Ref Watch:

Terry Chimes

Match Prediction:

Plonk you effort here.

Next Fixtures:

away to a meeting with Jamo and his Bristol city side

benji starting tomorrow, another arrival before the game and a 'cheeky announcement' prior to kick-off of another coming in and confidence - among the fans at least - will be quite high.
if we play like we did against brighton at the weekend, but take our chances, i reckon we will get at least a point...

Tough one tomorrow. we need abit of luck & to take a few chances. Reading will score but they do give you a few chances. I think we will do well to win, but expect a draw.

Not sure what game you watched Saturday Rug? but that was one of the most negative games of football i've ever seen Pompey play! No imagination, No desire, No pace, No-one who wanted the ball, No-one who stepped up to the plate and took control to give us drive and direction. It was quite frankly abject! But if you think thats worth a point then fair play. Having said that; Brighton weren't much better, very average!

Don't want you thinking i was having a dig at you Rug I wasn't. But just to say, Not one person around us and we spoke to plenty; thought we were any good or looked as if we have any hope if we set up too many times like that this season. What shocked me the most was the lack of desire and the fact not one player in a blue shirt wanted the ball. We wouldn't have scored from open play if we played till xmas!

Not sure what game you were at fellah, Pompey had 11 shots ( one every 8 mins 14 secs of play) compared to Brighton who had 3 shots ( one every 30 mins of play). Gus Poyet was to be seen on sky saying " we needed a bit of luck as Pompey had howmany shots I don't know but a lot". .... Some peoe will never see the reality over their disappointment.

11 shots??? How many actually made the keeper move?? I guess not 11! It was poor, and nothing is gonna change my mind about the negative attitude or performance of the team or Management!
