Pompey vs. Coventry

Fratton

12-04-2011

7.45pm

Pompey v Coventry

After a disappointing, lets be honest, draw at home against Preston on Saturday The Blues quickly have a chance to correct this against our Sky Blue opponents Coventry.

To get a win at Fratton again would be nice as it seems an age since we managed this - this is despite the fact we are on a 7 game unbeaten home run!

Vital Quotes:

If you are one of those, like a number of Pompey players and the manager, that is still harbouring hopes of a play-off place then a run of 6 straight victories needs to start tonight. To be honest I would be disappointed if we could not win, then again I had the same thoughts prior to the weekend draw!

Whatever I think the play-offs are gone, and with a number of others players resigned to this I fear our season could fizzle out?

The Russians 'might' be at Fratton tonight as well, a few whispers on t'internet are 'hinting' at this...

Pompey Team News:

Apart form the 'contract rebels' and a doubtful Liam Lawrence - hamstring strain - we have a near on full strength squad to pick from really.

With Rocha John Rocha - suspension - returning it is almost certain he will come back into the starting 11 and, almost as certain, that it will be at Aaron Mokoena's expense.

Player to watch: Mullins

Our midfield needs to grab this game by the scruff on the neck, and early on - as the most senior player in this area a lot of responsibility needs to be on Hayden Mullins' shoulders, who I thought had a good game at the weekend. So, we need him to step up - and that will hopefully mean others will - early on.

Coventry Team News:

Jordan Clarke - ankle - needs a fitness test.

Lee Carsley - Achilles, Richard Wood - groin, Ben Turner - knee and James McPake - back - are all out.

Player to watch: King

One of those 'linked' to Pompey over the years, and after serving his jail time, has been Marlon King. Like him or loathe him the facts of the matter are that he is Coventry's top scorer so will not need that many invitations to punish you.

Previous proves this and he is not afraid to dish out a beating!

Match Facts & Stats

In 26 previous meetings in total Coventry hold a 12-9 lead, with 5 draws. At Fratton though we are 6-3 ahead with 4 draws.

The last meeting came on the opening day of the season when a makeshift Pompey side were beaten.

The last Fratton meeting between these two sides came in the FA cup last season when we scraped a 1-1 draw before the dramatic replay win at The Ricoh. Although the last league meeting at Fratton came in October 2002, a 1-1 draw was the result that day.

Ref Watch:

Yuri Gagarin.

Don't want King around. That will probably mean he will score

I have no idea why- at all- but I'm backing Kitson to do something to justify his salary or even make me think he is worth Pompey keeping. Thank god RJR is back. 2-1 Pompey I reckon
