Pompey v Sheffield utd

Pompey
vs.
Sheff utd

Fratton

5/3/11

15:00

Pompey will be looking for a couple of things tomorrow, 1st and foremost of course, 3 points, then another shutout, but also to correct what they feel was an injustice at Bramall lane.

Vital Quotes:

The defeat earlier in the season up in Yorkshire really grated with the Pompey players, it was just before we turned our season around with that great autumn run, 1-0 was the score but Pompey dominated the match and left empty handed.

Still since then you wouldn't want to switch position would you? Sheffield anre languishing second from botom and six points adrift, Pompey have got over their own mid-winter blues, the recent 5 match win streak has seen us move up the table and all but asure survival for this season, not bad for March considering.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey are without Liam Lawrence once more tomorrow, his calf strain is proving to be a real hindrance, Joel Ward and Hayden Mullins may well join him, both have the same injury, Ward missed out on tuesday and Mullins limped out of that one.
If this is to be so, Kanu will get another start and Mokoena will be likely to join him.

Player to watch: Kanu

Pompey have been really slow starters at home of late, Kanu of course doesn't get much quicker than that anyway, but he has magic in his feet and can control a game when he is in the mood.

Sheff utd Team News:

United's Villa loanee Lowry has managed to get himself another match ban after kicking a dugout after a recent dismissal, he will join a line-up of absentees including influential captain Morgan who is out long term.
Micky Adams may have Sam Vokes to call upon, the ex-Bournemouth man has been on-loan from Wolves but has been hamstrung.

Player to watch: Evans

The Welsh international has not really been prolific, but he is the stand out threat with 9 goals, Pompey's recent solid defence will need to be on their toes if he and Vokes team up.

Match Facts & Stats

1-0 at Bramall of course, in all Utd have 33 wins to our 17, their must be a team out there somewhere we have beaten more than lost to!

Well as long as we don't get too hung up on breaking clean sheet records we should be able to overpower the Blades. If Mok starts I don't want to see him in the backline, mid-field please SC. As for Kanu starting.... he'll last and pull out a bit of magic I hope. Three points look oh so close but a tough old game to get em I think. PUP...PPU

Bit of a bogey team are Sheffield, I'm not expecting Lawrence or Muggins to start but here's hoping Ward is fit so Mok the Weak can stay on the bench. Much better that chance of a clean sheet; happy for him to be the impact player. I think Kanu has generally been the class of the field whenever he's played this season, lots of smarts and skills outweigh the lack of speed. Hecjyst brings a bit of calm and cool, of course the negative is Nugent gets pushed out to the wing and that makes it harder for him to get the 15 plus goals I predicted. No more stupidity from Mr Hogg please, he's becoming too good to miss. My head days we are strong enough to blunt and cut the blades, my heart says this is tougher than the Bristol & Boro games.

I just hope the King doesn't wear himself out warming up, he's going to need a walking stick soon. But you are right - he is class.

I would still prefer to see the poor old King taking a break on the bench until the last 20 minutes, but I guess we need him out there, so fingers crossed he can last, we have another midweek game coming up - and we have to put a few past Jamo just for old times sake!

ideally kanu would be brought on for his magic at the end, today i think we need him to start and how his magic for the opening 60-minutes or so then take him off - in an ideal world at half time, but this is pompey we are talking about...
if at all possible we MUST keep the back 4 as it has been in recent weeks.
got a good feeling about today now, i do hope it is not complacency slipping in!

not sure about that cp, i was pleasently surprised this morning in that whilst on my tradiditional betting sojourn - fulll english and a tenner on Pompey to win, i was met this day not with the traditional scorn i have come to know and accept, but unanimity, nay team spirit - no less. All the punters were putting money on Pompey to win on their various wierd betting matrix's and accumulators. LoL ive already looked at net betting just in case; off to the prediction league now.
