Pompey vs. Barnsley

Pompey v Barnsley

Pompey exorcised one demon last week by breaking their new year hoodoo, now it's the small matter of winning at home once again.

Vital Quotes:

Pompey have of course bought in David Cotterill in on another loan, he adds some welcome width though, Barnsley delved into the emergency loan department themselves, Paul (hi-de-hi) McShane arriving from Hull.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey have another ban in Jonathan Hogg, he was harshly sent off last week and will be missed after staring in the last couple of games, this however is countered by the arrival of Cotterill who looks likely to slot in, on the left.
Aaron Mokoena is available again after recieving his visa, this slip up though looks to have lost him his place as Rocha gave an assured display in his abscence.
Nugent has a slight hamstring problem but looks likely to make it.

Player to watch: de Laet

Had a slowish start, but has obvious quality which is starting to come to the fore.

Barnsley Team News:

Barnsley welcome McShane, he will step straight in for captain Foster who looks likely to mioss the rest of the season.
Frank Nouble is another loanee from West Ham, he has played the last three without yet finding the net.

Player to watch: Haynes

He is a recent acquisition from Bristol city, bought to replace the outgoing Adam Hammill as the flair man, he hasn't yet fulfilled his early promise, but looks a threat on his day.

Match Facts & Stats

Lost 1-0 at Oakwell to a Hammill belter, he has now departed though, so can Pompey avenge themselves?

where tut'park t'wippet, ad accidint ont way down int charabanc, bludy driver *****t see owt wot wi flat cap fallint front of eyes - dead peegions al owr t'place.... not that im stereotyping or anyfing :-) . . . Im afraid this is a must win to get that all important momentum going, heavy run of 7 games in 21 days coming up so Pompey need the maximum in these early matches for the times when it doesnt go right. All important for the crowd as well, my sense ( or lack of) says they are coming back on side and it would be a good time for the team to reward that loyalty with a bit of Fratton form.

I agree Russell, it is important for the crowd, especially as I shall be amongst them. Seriously tho, the gates have been getting lower and lower, we need a win.

That could be interesting if it wasn't for the expectation that the recent problems will be at the heart of the programme.
