Brighton vs. Pompey

Withdean stadium

8/1/11

Seagulls V Pompey

There used to be a time when this was a regular fixture, but now we need the cup to keep us in contact, although next season may see us meet on level terms.

Vital Quotes:

I was used to think of Brighton as our little neighbour down the road, during the 80's they had a purple patch, having 4 years in the top flight and a cup final where 'Smith must score'.
Since then it has been bottom tier football, like Pompey they have ran hand in hand with extinction a couple of times, even losing the Goldstone to dodgy property deal in 1997.

Success has been slowly returning however, a new stadium is almost ready, and in terms of infra- structure they are about to overtake Pompey.

Brighton Team News:

Brighton will have Chris Wood available after WBA gave permission for him to be cup-tied, the New Zealander is currently trying to carve out a career in the English leagues after showing early promise.
Noone misses out after already featuring for Plymouth in earlier rounds, Cladreon completes his ban, while player-coach Taricco continues at right back.
Gus poyet is at the luxury of being able to rest a few players as his priority is promotion, however the lure of claiming a higher league scalp may be too tempting.

Player to watch: Murray

Minty has been the main goal threat so far with a goal every other game, he will fancy his chances against a suspect Pompey defence.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey lose Halford to a ban, Rocha to injury and Kitson has a foot injury, the latter should figure however, while Joel Ward will return a t right back with Sonko likely to resume at centre back with Hreidarsson, Mokoena may return to his favourite centre midfield.

Player to watch: Lawrence

Along with Nugent he has been a shining light this season as we have flucuated in form terms, he will be the main man in terms of attacking options.

Match Facts & Stats

Last time we met was back in 2003, we headed in differnt directions at the time, Pompey were heading upwards and Brighton for a spell that saw them reach league 2, Pompey took 4 points from 6 that season, whilst in the cup Brighton beat us 1-0 back in 1993.

We are looking at a humiliating defeat in this one and Cot is rumoured to have been considered for the ipswich position, I'm not sure if that is a bad or good thing at the minute. He might turn it around ( yet again) in the 2nd half but once again it seems so badly wrong in the first 48 mins. I also still don't understand why Mok is captain. Still 30 odd mins to turn it around

OMG that wasn't a football match it was a f'ing car crash! And now we're left with Kitson suspended for 3 matches - and possibly Lawrence injured! I'm so pleased I couldn't get tickets.

Terribly disciplined, when the squad is as thin as it currently is, do lose players for silly red cards is so stupid. Could cost us dearly come May.

Jeez what the hell is going on @ PFC. Bloody disastrous, absolutely no consistancy whatever. It's making the run we went on look more and more like luck. Something is up in that dressing room, but if there isn't we ought to be ashamed after putting in a performance like that...Grrrr...

its gonna be a long old day going to Forest and back next week! I'd better pack some football boots just in case!

This result was always a possibility until some cash is injected into the club we will see more like this. We have a paper thin squad at best and 2 of those we can't use cause of contract issues. No sign of any incoming players. We are out of administration in name only everything else remains the same. I think Steve Cotterill has the ability if he's given the tools to do the job, Who could blame him if he did move on?
Steve C
i'm gonna go hibernate, someone get me up when this is all over please...
