Fratton
14/8/10
15:00
Pompey play their Fratton curtain raiser against a familiar foe tomorrow, and a foe that generally provide a good value for goals opponent. The last time the two met at Fratton it provided the biggest goals aggregate the Premiership has witnessed, also it was the most goals for I have ever witnessed!
Both teams come into the game after opening day defeat, pompey of course succumbed to coventry, while Reading crashed at home to Scunthorpe.
Likewise both teams fallen from grace of late, Pompey obviously a bit more spectacularly, but Reading were gracing the Premiership themselves until a couple of years back and nearly made a late run back up last term.
Pompey will have Carl Dickinson to boost our ranks, if he is even 10% the player his namesake was we will love him, he will no doubt take the left-back spot, this will in turn free up Matt Ritchie to push forward.
Captain Marc Wilson will again play in midfield after his proposed transfer out was blown out of the water, while Mokoena should partner Sonko in defence after missing the midweek game due to International duty.
Stevenage goal hero Ciftci will probably drop to the bench along with Joel Ward with mullins falling back to fill in.
If John Utaka plays is anyones guess, every club he has been linked with have not been forthcoming, I suppose they must send scouts out!
Maybe a predictable choice as a new signing, but he is supposed to be a wholehearted player who loves a tackle, that seems to fit perfectly into the Pompey mould.
Reading have a few injury worries themselves, striker twinforce Church and Long are struggling, while McAnuff and Jay Tabb both missed the midweek fixture at Torquay.
The veteran midfielder will have a ding-dong with Brown, whoever comes out on top will have the biggest influence on the match.
7-3 last time out at Fratton, that coincided with a goal drought at fratton afterwards though lasting until Christmas time, Pompey have won 15 of the 31 competitive games between the two, losing 7.
