On Sky

Stevenage v Pompey

Pompey take on Stevenage for the first ever time tomorrow night, Sky obviously fancy an upset so a covering it!

Vital Quotes:

Stevenage enjoyed their first taste of Football league yesterday, first taking the lead and then coming from behind to equalise in the last minute, 1 game and 1 point, now they have a first taste of League cup action and will fancy the scalp of Pompey. They are no strangers to cup runs however, they were the first team to win a final at the 'new' Wembley and made the final again last season.

Stevenage Team News:

Jon Ashton has injured his hip and will miss out, while David Bridges serves out a suspension, Robbie Sinclair and Chris Beardsley are waiting to fill in.

Player to watch: Chris Griffin

He was a 2 time scorer yesterday, so that makes him this seasons top man and also Stevenage's all time top scorer in football league!

Pompey Team News:

Pompey will not have the luxury of resting a few players tomorrow, this was the norm during our top flight tenure, one player who may earn that right is Mullins who has been waiting for a jab in a knee problem.
The only other real change we may see is Peter Gregory or Marlon Pack getting more of a run out.

Player to watch: Nugent

Not given a sniff at Coventry, but he has certainly had more success in cup games with Pompey than any other game.

Match Facts & Stats

First time meeting between the two, so the last time we said that was Ac Milan, Wolfsburg and Heereneven!

I hate cup games, especially in the begining. Not because it is a cup game, but because we really haven't got the players for these matches. We have to play our full team and this could mean trouble. On the other hand, we must win comfortably, so we can gain some momentum.
Pompey Malta
pompey tend to do not so badly in cup games of late, so maybe i can see a win, a slim one at 1-0. i might go to this game... anyone else thinking the same?

I predicted a 0-2 win to Pompey but there again I did went for the same result against Coventry...... Doh ! Sorry Pessimist I'll have to sit this one out; you still in Nth Surrey?
russellm
russ - yep, graduated last year, but still no job - thats all to be expected I suppose!! If im going I need to drive to pompey then back to surb, then to stevenage, then back to surb... or i could do nothing all day and watch it on pirated sky =)
pompey--pessimist
... or in the pub!

"First time meeting between the two, so the last time we said that was Ac Milan, Wolfsburg and Heereneven!" - a very scary thought... I'm hoping Nugent will at least open his account for the season tomorrow.

One of those fairytale games for Stevenage, I'm assuming Sky will pick up on the whole "3 months ago one of these clubs were non-league and the others were in the FA Cup Final..." thing, which is probably why they picked to show this match, just to use that line. I'd take a scrappy win but I wouldn't be losing too much sleep if we don't progress in this competition.

Got to agree with Frippy we have not got the squad to progess in the league cup, playing league games will be a struggle enough. Is this Pompey's first ever competitve game in Hertfordshire??
eastneydave
Do we still have out internationals available?
wellyit
Or even ouR internationals..
wellyit
rumors are that mokoena is off on international duty.... as for wilson not sure?? do we have any others??
pompeyhussler
KPB is in the Ghana squad. Kanu and Utaka omitted from Nigeria.
wellyit
Well Kanu's still in contract negotiations, so that just leaves Utaka! What joy! You know what, if we we could get this squad up to the 'bare bones' level, we'd be doing OK.
tracyc
Unfortunately my midweek games will be few and far between because I just can't do it unless I take the next morning off work, and there's only so many I can do, especially at the moment. But I will be watching on pirated Sky, with Express Fm as back up in case we lose the feed.
tracyc
I agree that Utaka is not fit to wear our shirt. And it seems Wilson is attracting attention from other clubs! Doh!
tracyc
speaking to PFC - they are selling tickets at the ground =)
pompey--pessimist
anyone know where i can listen online as im working tonite and cant get radio reception in my work just can listen online...
pompeyhussler
hussler- i can only suggest and this is bandwidth dependant... download a program called sopcast (google is your friend). then go to myp2p (dot) eu. click live sports-> football... the pompey game is there (at this time the channels are not up). some links will require internet browser and some will require sopcast. sopcast tends to offer better tv feed quality. im guessing the station YES will be there. otherwise theres iraqgoals. hope that helps!
pompey--pessimist
word of caution on sopcast though-- its free but the installer is riddled with additional spamware so make sure you "untick" all the additional stuff. the program itself is safe =)

Charlie Griffin scored one on Saturday. Chris Griffin is from Family Guy! Stevenage preview - http://www.stevenage.vitalfootball.co.uk/matchprere.asp?a=208220

Said somewhere I would settle for a scrappy 2-1 win - well I am more than happy with that.
