Fratton

Pompey step out in the 3rd round of the FA cup today, and oh how times of changed from 2 years ago, then we were setting out on the road to Wembley, blissfully unaware of troubles to come, our squad was about to be joined by Defoe, Campbell was playing for England along with James and Johnson, and we were pushing for Europe.

Vital Quotes:

Back to the harsh reality of 2010 and its all gone a bit pear-shaped, if we are to believe the crystal balls in the tabloids, the revolving door at Fratton is going to turn one way only, Pompey don't have a lot of quality left at Fratton, what there is looks likely to move on once more, leaving squad men and kids to were the once proud blue.

Pompey Team News:

No Africans today, thats for sure, they have left to play a cup competition in the middle of a domestic season, the only ones left weren't deemed good enough for their squads or never qualified.
Also absent will be O'Hara, Spurs don't want him cup-tied, and if truth be told he may well not play for us again.
Team selection today will give pointers to who is likely to depart, if Boateng, Begovic and Kaboul are all 'rested', expect them to depart sometime soon.
Williamson may make a long awaited debut, Wilson is in with a shout of a recall, while Smith may come in from the cold for a run out.

Player to watch: Boateng

Purely just to see if he will figure, I seem to remember Defoe being an unused sub 12 months ago.

Coventry Team News:

Coventry will fancy their chances, they like us have a few loanees who may not be able to figure, Chris Hussey has been granted permission, while Jack Cork may get the nod from Chelsea. Martin Crainie may have a point to prove to his old club.
Coventry have a few familiar faces, Leon Best is top scorer, while old foe Clinton Morrison has happy memories of Fratton, he figured heavily against a relegation threatened Pompey a few years back, scoring for Palace in a 4-2 win.

Player to watch: Best

Coventry haven't found goals easily to come by this term, so 9 goal Best is your man, though Eastwood and Morrison all offer a goal threat.

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey haven't met Cov in the cup since 1963, our last meeting though was a 4-0 win for Pompey as our team was on the crest of a wave in 2003 as they swept to promotion.

Coventry will come here looking to take advantage of our awful situation. They arn't that different to Bristol City or Swansea & look what happened last season. Then we had Crouch, Niko & GJ. I go in desperatre hope, take my daughter for her third game, after taking her to the 2 pathetic home cup games last January. Hopefully she will us score & more importantly, win!!!!

The team line-up is gonna be as interesting as the game itself I reckon... Surely we won't go 4-5-1 in this game will we ?.. but then again who to be have to partner Freddie.. Utaka.. erm.. no, Kanu.. erm.. no, Dindane.. erm.. no.. must be Webber then !

Team line up will be interesting - its a very limited choice isn't it! Remember how disappointing it was going out to Swansea last year, hope it doesn't happen again. As for 2 years ago, at this stage we were also blissfully unaware that we would win the cup and play in Europe. Perhaps it just goes to show that you never know what's round the corner, and it can be good as well as bad. Just because the situation looks dire right now (and it does) doesn't mean that's how things will pan out.

Got to agree with the importance of who's left out as paultsmouths article points out - too many first teamers benched under the pretence of being rested will be very worrying indeed.

I can see at best a draw, or worse still a defeat. A flat empty Fratton, half a team out and the continual cloud over us makes for a very odd day. I normally love this day, but not this year.

lets hope that were not 'cheated' once again eh, jamo THIS - what we are going through as skint football fans, with the club we love struggling to survive - is what being cheated REALLY feels like!

A comfortable win is on the cards...and we start hoping again. I hope Hughes and Mokoena will not be selected. Basinas should be on the starting line-up.
