Pompey vs. Coventry

Pompey v Coventry

Pompey step out in the 3rd round of the FA cup today, and oh how times of changed from 2 years ago, then we were setting out on the road to Wembley, blissfully unaware of troubles to come, our squad was about to be joined by Defoe, Campbell was playing for England along with James and Johnson, and we were pushing for Europe.

Vital Quotes:

Back to the harsh reality of 2010 and its all gone a bit pear-shaped, if we are to believe the crystal balls in the tabloids, the revolving door at Fratton is going to turn one way only, Pompey don't have a lot of quality left at Fratton, what there is looks likely to move on once more, leaving squad men and kids to were the once proud blue.

Pompey Team News:

No Africans today, thats for sure, they have left to play a cup competition in the middle of a domestic season, the only ones left weren't deemed good enough for their squads or never qualified.
Also absent will be O'Hara, Spurs don't want him cup-tied, and if truth be told he may well not play for us again.
Team selection today will give pointers to who is likely to depart, if Boateng, Begovic and Kaboul are all 'rested', expect them to depart sometime soon.
Williamson may make a long awaited debut, Wilson is in with a shout of a recall, while Smith may come in from the cold for a run out.

Player to watch: Boateng

Purely just to see if he will figure, I seem to remember Defoe being an unused sub 12 months ago.

Coventry Team News:

Coventry will fancy their chances, they like us have a few loanees who may not be able to figure, Chris Hussey has been granted permission, while Jack Cork may get the nod from Chelsea. Martin Crainie may have a point to prove to his old club.
Coventry have a few familiar faces, Leon Best is top scorer, while old foe Clinton Morrison has happy memories of Fratton, he figured heavily against a relegation threatened Pompey a few years back, scoring for Palace in a 4-2 win.

Player to watch: Best

Coventry haven't found goals easily to come by this term, so 9 goal Best is your man, though Eastwood and Morrison all offer a goal threat.

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey haven't met Cov in the cup since 1963, our last meeting though was a 4-0 win for Pompey as our team was on the crest of a wave in 2003 as they swept to promotion.

I feel flatter than a witches chesticle right now, a team full of familiar faces may cheer me up, but don't bank on it
Coventry will come here looking to take advantage of our awful situation. They arn't that different to Bristol City or Swansea & look what happened last season. Then we had Crouch, Niko & GJ. I go in desperatre hope, take my daughter for her third game, after taking her to the 2 pathetic home cup games last January. Hopefully she will us score & more importantly, win!!!!
The team line-up is gonna be as interesting as the game itself I reckon... Surely we won't go 4-5-1 in this game will we ?.. but then again who to be have to partner Freddie.. Utaka.. erm.. no, Kanu.. erm.. no, Dindane.. erm.. no.. must be Webber then !
Team line up will be interesting - its a very limited choice isn't it! Remember how disappointing it was going out to Swansea last year, hope it doesn't happen again. As for 2 years ago, at this stage we were also blissfully unaware that we would win the cup and play in Europe. Perhaps it just goes to show that you never know what's round the corner, and it can be good as well as bad. Just because the situation looks dire right now (and it does) doesn't mean that's how things will pan out.
Got to agree with the importance of who's left out as paultsmouths article points out - too many first teamers benched under the pretence of being rested will be very worrying indeed.
I can see at best a draw, or worse still a defeat. A flat empty Fratton, half a team out and the continual cloud over us makes for a very odd day. I normally love this day, but not this year.
we will soon find out wont we what will or will not happen? did john utaka actually get selected by nigeria tho? i heard he was left out?

lets hope that were not 'cheated' once again eh, jamo THIS - what we are going through as skint football fans, with the club we love struggling to survive - is what being cheated REALLY feels like!
wow. so much negativity. my name is more powerful than ever. lol. yet... i think we will win today =) heres to idiots hope =)
A comfortable win is on the cards...and we start hoping again. I hope Hughes and Mokoena will not be selected. Basinas should be on the starting line-up.
Pompey Malta
I thought Basinas contract runs out this month
Kaboul and Boateng play, who'd have thought it! Just setting off now, 2-1 win I reckon.
Kaboul, Begovic, Boateng all in the line up. A fresh start for hard-working Smith with Piquionne. Diop is also back. A nice line-up, apart from Hughes. Mokoena has disappeared again.
Pompey Malta
Mokoena is suspended for 5 yellows I think you'll find. Quite a promising line-up. I was expecting a few to be missing. Shame we didn't play Brown & Diop in the week. PUP
Despite the OS saying Smith is going to play alongside Freddy I think he and Boateng will be the wide players (there arn't any other likely candidates). PUP
Anyone else around?????
John Westwood's in goal for Coventry???????
Blimey thats a bonus Tracey, should be 8 or 9 then!
We dont sound too bad, seem like we're up for it!
One way traffic at the moment. Should do better from the corners tho.
We've got to make this pressure count!
Afternoon Blue
Hi Penton.
Being the pessimist i am, i hope we dont let them into this. they're not a bad side
Plenty of attacking but no end result - so what's different?
penalty shout for them...phew not given
Well stuff my old boots, as if that doesn't just put the tin hat on it!
wow, just wow... i give up i think lol
Afternoon gents...Not good eh?
Ha !!!!!!
Was just about to say that I was going to slope off for a bit of late dinner or early tea...but KP has done the biz
Get in there! at long last...
I did Hammersmith, couldnt hang on any longer
cheese on toast is called for, methinks, and a mug of tea
Just got in from walking the dog, sounds like i did the best thing!
11,214 is that the lowest attendance for a few years?
2,500 were from Coventry.
Well my reply earlier today on this piece was spot on!...Rug can i have some points please for the predictions league? ;-)
...and I added a slice of Yule log too. A very nice bit of tea. Now, F A Cup? What's that?
Mmmm Yule log...thats got me thinking; Stollen I think, got me hungry again!
How can i moan, im sat here? (except me and Ms P are ill) 8700 Pompey fans...Blimey!
So they're protesting in Frogmore Road, I was wondering if that would be the case today.
the owners will respond to the protest ... by doing/saying nothing! lol.
what was with the low attendance - you won this trophy the season before last!
Couldn't face it merlin - call me soft!
What do you expect Merlin? Our club has been stolen from us and the FA Cup is the beginning, and the symbol, of our problems.
i'm not going to be one of those crying in the stand come may, but i am emotional inside. it sickens me as it probably does all others what has been done to our club. I'm prepared for the championship but not what looks like following, thats why i wasnt there today, i cant sit and watch the guts being ripped out of my club, and i dont just mean on the pitch
