Pompey v teamwithrealmoney

Chelsea
vs.
Pompey

Stamford Bridge

16/12/1970

Pompey make the short trip to Fulham to visit a metaphorical graveyard for us, not a happy hunting ground by any means.

Vital Quotes:

Avram has been at pains to point out that his time at Chelsea was cut short, it ended up a bit sour, but he can go there with his head held high after providing a rudder to Abramovich's expensively assembled cruiser which had gone amok under Captain Mourinho.

Pompey have had their usual week of turmoil and rumours of financial ruin, so this must be the way we warm up for a match now, and where better to play than against Chelsea, a team that many thought we were about to join in the rich club only as recently as last Spring, how times, thoughts and aspirations have changed!

Chelsea Team News:

Didier Drogba has been declared a doubt for the game, a back injury is causing concern, but this off set by the news that Kalou is fit.
Alex looks likely to cover for Carvalho who has earned a rest, bless.

Player to watch: Cech

Although one of the best 'keepers to have played in the Premiership, he has been criticised lately for his command of the area, if Pompey have done any sort of homework, crosses into the box will be the order of the day.

Pompey Team News:

Yootha Kaboul is banned once more after flexing his pecs on Wearside, but Finnan is fit to come back in at right back and allow Ben Haim to revert to the centre.
Diop is back and waiting to muscle his way back in the 11, while Kanu may well drop back to being an impact sub after disappointing at the weekend.
Boateng is fit as well, so Hughes may slip back to benchwarming duties.

Player to watch: O'Hara

He takes most of our set pieces, this is where Chelsea have been exposed lately, so he will need to have his Dead-shot Keen boots on.

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey last tasted victory at the bridge in 1955, in the prem we have taken exactly zero points so far up the A3, so make your own conclusions.

Match Prediction:

Anyone feeling brave? If so stick a wildly over ambitious guess here.

Next Fixtures:

Another 'crisis' club in Liverpool, they don't know the meaning of the word!

1955 we won there 5-1 and they were the League Champions at the time!! My friend Pat Neil played in the Pompey side, Peter Harris got a couple of the goals. Anyone for a repeat?

1955....geez,,, that's eons ago. I was nearly five years old. Oh well, what's a few decades between wins eh! I'm just hoping we don't get thrashed too badly. Still, if we do....we've still got decades to forget about it.
