Pompey travel to the potteries tomorrow in search of the result that could lift us off of the foot of the table, today's results have offered us this chance, Wolves crashing to Chelsea, West Ham and Hull drew to stay within reach.
If pompey can eek out the win is another matter, Stoke have 16 points so far, 10 of which have come at home.
Pompey were looking good until falling apart at Blackburn a couple of weeks back, but looking at the form guide, Pompey need to make their move soon.
Paul Hart has been quick to play down the league cup encounter which we won 4-0, Stoke were under strength in that one, and at home are a different proposition all round.
Tony Pulis meanwhile has felt at pains to point out the vociferous support of a partisan home crowd, he did however compare it with ours, we must have left a mark!
Stoke are definitely without Abdoulaye Faye after he was sent off at Hull, while Irish duo Liam Lawrence and Glen Whelan are being monitored to see just how much their defeat to France took out of them.
Public enemy number one to Pompey fans, scored two last season after Pompey looked to have taken the points.
Pompey have doubts over Dindane who was taken off at Blackburn, and Yebda who missed that one, but did figure for Algeria in the week.
Hermann is fit at last, but looks likely to sit on the bench after so long out.
Tommy Smith will be hoping for a recall after missing the last two, while Finnan is still on the sidelines.
He has been lively in the last couple, he supposed to be a confidence player, he has scored a couple so must be in the ascendecy.
2-2 last year, Pompey were in front for a long time before a disputed penalty and debated offside decision gave Stoke the lead, it took a Shawcross og late on for us to get a point.

Will a point do us? or all 3 required? Hedge a guess here.
