Blackburn vs. Pompey

Pompey v Blackburn

Pompey travel up to Ewood to meet fellow basement club Blackburn, Pompey though have a little bit of form behind them after 8 goals and 2 clean sheets in their last 2 outings.
Blackburn however suffered a 2-0 loss to Man Utd last week.

Vital Quotes:

Blackburn have been the first club to be affected by Hog flu, Olsson is the latest to go down with it, while Jason Roberts is still suffering.

Paul Hart has had a few plaudits from his players this week, Kaboul praising him to the limit and all the players making their feelings known in their celebrations last week, he may not have won all the fans over, but the players are certainly on his side and playing for him.

Blackburn Team News:

Olsson drops out to nurse his curly tale, but Grella is close to pushing for a place after injury.
Roberts missed last weeks defeat with the virus, he is still show signs of it though and may well be quarantined for another week.
Supposed Pompey January target McCarthy looks likely to get no more than another sub spot, since Allardyce has come in he has really dropped down the pecking order.

Player to watch: Nelsen

The home captain is trying to plug all the gaps right now, he will have to be on top form to stop Pompey's new found confidence in front of goal.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey will definitely be without Steve Finnan, an abductor strain has done for him this time, and its basically a straight toss up between Belhadj or Vanden Borre to replace him, this of course all depends where Ben haim will play on the day.
Piquionne has recovered from his concussion and should resume his fledgling partnership with Dindane, Tommy Smith will have to sit it out once more if this is the case.

Player to watch: Dindane

Hat-trick hero last week, needs to kick on to prove it was no flash in the pan.

Match Facts & Stats

Everyone says we have a poor record at Ewood, but we have won 2 of out 6 meetings since the return to the top flight, losing the other 4.

Ref Watch:

Jerry Dammers

Match Prediction:

There is a new optimism from Fratton towers, hopefully Paul Hart will go with it and 4-4-2 again, but how do you think we will fare, hedge a bet here.

There's no doubt about it....this is going to be a tough one. Just hope our defence is up to it tomorrow. Plenty of long balls to deal with I expect. Still, if we go there and play positive, flowing football, I'm sure we can get something from this game. Dindane..Freddy....get those scoring boots on. Oh how I'd love another 4-0....PUP

got to be positive, if we are I cvan see another 3 points

You don't want much Corny! But it does look as tho they have a leaky defence......
gandor1

I've got a tenner on a Pompey win; I always do. I would be happy to take a draw tomorrow ( I have a fiver on a 1-1 draw), I'm of the opinion win most of your home games, draw a few and we will be safe.

had to do abit of an edit sneaks, as the html was slightly wrong - which meant everything became a hyperlink...

i am really up for this - i am just gutted i have to miss it, first league game since birmingham that i have missed! i am goig for another win, 3-1 with dindane getting in on the act again.

I'll take a draw .. but would love to see us off the bottom .. Clean sheet will also be important but how Janice and Wilson cope with the airial bombardment will be the deciding factor .. We really need O'Hara and Brown to break up their possession as much as possible .. If they don't have the ball they can't loft it into our box..
Chix
Got a feeling today will be one step too far today. I'm thinking along the same lines as Chix, I think our central pairing will find it too tough today under constant bombardment...Hope i'm wrong though!
pentonpompey
i tend to agree, as in all honesty i would take a point from this and from stoke next time but hope we go there looking to get something, no just go there looking for a point and nothing more...
pompeyrug
Oh bugger the technicals - we are going to WIN, I just know it! PUP PUP PUP!
gandor1
i got a fiver on micheal brown first goal 25/1 come on pompey !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pompeyhussler
Don't know about "technicals" Gandor..... but if our midfield can grab this game by the balls we have every chance of getting a result. I keep getting 2-1 coming into my head. Trouble is I can't quite decide who's gonna get the 2. Ok, OFF the FENCE........1-2 Pompey. Come on you Blues.....PUP.
