Hapless, pointless, rudderless, clueless.
Just some of the names being bandied around in the press about Pompey at the moment, some harsh, some carry a bit more weight. Pointless is factually correct, we may have deserved a couple of points by now, but a big fat zero out of a possible 15 tells its own story.
It's been quite nice for the turmoil to have been at another club this week, O'Neill and one time Pompey target Reo-Coker have attracted the headlines this week, rather than Pompey and their pit of perpetual doom.
Pompey players are making all the right noises, Both Ben Haim and Smith have spoken out this week about how 'we will get it right', but is Villa park the place this will happen?
Let's face it, we will take a point absolutely anywhere right now, all the time we are rooted to the bottom with nothing, the further the light at the end of the tunnel becomes.
I reckon Reo-Coker may well be missing from the squad this week, but John Carew is a man with a case for playing, he is was influential in Villa's win at Birmingham last week, and if anyone has watched Pompey this season a frailty in the air is a big problem.
Davies, Downing and Bouma are still out, but Dunne slotted in nicely last week and looks a fixture.
Nicky Shorey will be hoping to play against the team he snubbed in favour of bench-warming.
He has arguably been our best player so far, with the expected arial assault from Carew, he will need to be at his best, and he is also our top scorer!!
Finnan is back training, but I think Carlisle looks a more likely debut ground, likewise Hreidarsson.
Willamson may well be in the managers thoughts, but upfront Dindane is still thought to be lacking fitness, so Piquionne has been issued with a 'time to start scoring' ultimatum.
O'Hara and Boateng will have had a little time to train with their new mates, hopefully producing a little more cohesion throughout the team.
Thought he was our best player last week, he seems more of a winger than forward though, but he has certainly put in a shift so far and looks likely to score somewhere.
A Sulley Muntari inspired win was our first success since 1970 at Villa park, will it be another 27 years this time?
Stuart Goddard (nice stripe)
Time to break the duck? Or six out of six? bet here.
