Pompey will be looking to get their season off and running of sorts tonight, Hereford are the opposition and will probably come with Giant-killing aspirations after dispatching Charlton in the first round.
Pompey need a win, any sort of win, a comfortable win is preferable, but if we scrape it it will do.
Hereford are hardly setting the world alight in league 2, 2 draws and 2 defeats is their record so far, but Pompey can top that with 3 defeats of their own.
Leyton Orient springs to mind with this fixture, it was back in January 2002 when we famously got stuffed 4-1 at home, any repeat would not go down favourably with an already frustrated and disgruntled Fratton faithful.
Pompey have not met Hereford since 1983 in any form of football, and have only lost once in a total of 9 meetings, this was in this very competition.
Pompey will no doubt field a weakened side (if it can get any weaker) James won't be chanced for certain, so take your pick from Niemi/Begovic/Ashdown as stand-in.
Marc Wilson is another doubt after limping out of the Arsenal defeat, Piquionne also is carrying a slight knock.
Nugent may well get a run out, if he can pop a couple in it could be the knock on the door Paul Hart needs.
Richard Hughes will likely figure, as may Joel Ward and Cowans-Hall.
Hart obviously doesn't hold faith in the Greek, but if he can pass it around tonight he may well get more of a look in on Sunday.
Ryan Valentine has completed a one match ban so should return at Left-back, while Bristol City loanees Plummer and Jackson have both been cleared to play.
Glen Southam got a cut to the head in Saturdays game, but should make the line-up.
Hopefully the Bulls keeper will be the busiest man on the pitch
