'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey vs. Abu Dhabi franchise

Pompey V Man City

Pompey start all over again tomorrow, with our third manager in just over three months.
Pompey and City sit close in the wrong end of the table, but our fortunes couldn't be further apart right now, city have their plush new stadium and state of the art training facilities, we have decrepid old Fratton, someone elses run down training facilities and a full bladder without your proverbial pot.

Tony Adams' tenure has ended, Paul Hart and Brian Kidd are the men at the helm now, but will it be 'here comes the new boss, same as the old boss'?

Vital Quotes:

After a week of upheaval, Pompey have gone from a managerial greenhorn to old heads in Paul Hart and a wealth of experience in the shape of Brian Kidd, you do feel that if Tony had made the call for Kidd himself he would still have his hand on the Pompey rudder.

A couple of players have spoken out now saying the time was right to change the manager, maybe a nod to how the dressing room felt in general?

Anyway, to the football and Pompey had 3 on duty midweek with England, Kranjcar scoring for Croatia and Gekas hit one for Greece, hardly sounds like a struggling side on paper does it?

This game should be about David James record breaking feats in usurping Gary Speeds premiership apperances record, but the stakes are so much higher, Jamo kept 16 clean sheets last term and 1 tomorrrow to add to his 4 this season would not go amiss.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey welcome back Traore, Kaboul and Marc Wilson back from various ailments, while Pennant is available after missing the Liverpool game because of Premiership rules.

Player to watch: Nugent

Pompeys young striker seems the most likely to score now after a long barren spell, he has also been one to show the right character when a few others have seemed to be playing within themselves.

Abu Dhabi franchise Team News:

Man City will have Shaun Wright-Phillips banned for his flick on Rory Delap, while Richard Dunne continues his 4 match ban.
Elano should be able to follow up his goalscoring Brazilian feats with a return to City's side, while old Favourite Benjani and supposed window target Sturridge join Petrov on the absentee list.

Player to watch: Bellamy

Our old friend played himself back into form a few short weeks ago at Fratton whilst with West Ham scoring twice. Trouble is he always has a blinder at Fratton!

Match Facts & Stats

Goals aplenty is the order of the day, Pompey had a spanking up at Eastlands, while we average around 3 or 4 goals a game over the seasons.

Ref Watch:

Lady luck.

Match Prediction:

Will the old adage of a new manager and first win come through? Or will Citys millionaires gain a first away win since August? Place a guess here.

As a matter of interest, the Mendes match was on 11/3/06, of our players available that day only Davis remains! Time for heroes to be be born
I'm gonna miss this game so given my luck, it'll be a great victory for us which, of course, will be smashing but I will miss it!
pompeycarpet may need to fiddle with the players names a little there, but essentially, that's my prediction.
I'm gonna be stuck down here in Cornwall (just had a hip operation) but i'm going to be giving off plenty of verbal into the ether....PUP...
c'mon Pompey....Players and Fans give your best....Blue Army..Blue Army..Blue Army..
I'm going - atmosphere was fantastic last week, hope we can do the same again this week. Up the Blues!
PS: Citeh fancy themselves for this one.
Too right we do
we need the points

Not won one since August, Will portsmouth be up for this one or will we get the first away win of the year, while you are in a bit of reorganisation?
Buzz Lightyear
That's an amazing fact, citeh not won away since August!!! FFS let's not oblige in our usual manner. Get at them & hassle them, we work as a team we have a chance. Following that 6-0 disaster last September, let's hope we can do our own 'St. Valentine's Day Massacre' on them.
Has anyone else noticed that besides scoring goals, these days, Nuge is not doing that falling over, slipping, miss kicking and getting the ball stuck under his feet any more?
don't tempt fate! But yes you're right. Amazing what a bit of confidence does with a few goals.
Yes Nugent now has confidence!! Unfortunately he is about the only member of the aquad that has. A win and the old Pompey will be back.
Of course, he might have bought himself a proper pair of football boots?
Their missing a few star players like wright phillips, dunne, and benjani so we should get at least a point here. Cmon Lads!
Play Up Pompey
Stuck in Paris (sigh) but still in touch - two nil you beauties! You obviously don't like playing when I'm watching!
My mate had to cancel late this morning so didn't get to the game either but maybe we should stay away till we're safe. lol
Steve C
That'll teach Mark Hughes, i understand from a friend who'd been talking to the groundstaff that the Ref left the decision to cancel the game to the managers, Adams wanted to play it and Hughes didn't.
Steve C
Great result, netted me a few quid on a correct score bet too!!
Just got back in from the game - Not a wonderful performance but Citeh offered little and a committed run from Johnson and a great header from Hermann (from a set piece !!) was enough to give us what the doctor ordered.. Man of the match Brian Kidd.. I'll let somebody else explain why ..
oh .. forgot to mention .. for once Pualtsmouth .. you got the ref spot on ;) in the preview
Chix, made the Milton at about twenty past two, no Guiness was made available to me, have i offended you mate, or did leave earlier than you thought you would?
