Pompey's plethora of matches returns with another visit to Portugal, this time a little further up the road to Braga
Harry Redknapp has gone on record in declaring that Braga are a better team than Guimares, this statement is fuelled by an old player apparently.
'I spoke to somebody who used to play for me, who is now out in Portugal, and he knows everything about Braga.
He also knew about Guimaraes, the last team we played. They were a good team but I've told Braga are a better team. So it will be a tough game.'
Well that is the news on the official site, but to us Pompey fans Braga are another unknown quantity, 5 Brazilians, A Cameroonian and Columbian frequent their line up, and they say the Premiership has too many foreigners!
Albert Meyong, a Cameroon international is likely to partner the Columbian Wason Renteria, if Wason is anything like compatriot Hamilton ricard we should be okay.
Braga are without a win in the league since the opening day, but have qualified for the UEFA through the Intertoto cup, scoring freely along the way.
Luis Aguira is the main man in the centre, most of the play goes through him.
I know little about him, but from what I have found he is the boy to watch.
Midfield is where the problems lie, Diarra looks like again missing out with his knee knock, Richard Hughes has only just returned to full training, so I reckon Diop will partner the soon to be suspended Sean Davis in the centre, Utaka I doubt will get a start as his lack of effort is starting to irk even Redknapp who has stood by his man so far.
Our defence may well contain Pamarot again who performed admirably at Villa.
Sol seems to be having an Indian summer all of a sudden, his pace which seemed to have deserted him has miraculously returned, and he has become the man-mountain we love again.
Braga have yet to beat an English side in Europe, while Pompey are old hats with 1 win in 2 against the Portugese.
Ali Umbongo (DC Congo)
After our last trip to Portugal, any advance on the first half last time out will be a bonus, but will Harry go for it? I reckon he will, this is a one off and a win will set us up nicely.
