Pompey v Chelsea

After Sunday's debacle at Eastlands what we need is a nice easy cup-tie against lower league oppisiotion....

Vital Quotes:

Chester? Carlisle? Colchester? No its bloody Chelsea again, 40 odd teams we could of had in the cup, but to get us back on track we get Chelsea.
Still we must have hit rock bottom on Sunday, so maybe a mixture of reserves and fringe players will do the job against a Chelsea side who invaribly take the Carling cup quite seriously.

Pompey Team News:

At least 8 changes have been cited for tomorrow, in midfield Diop, Diarra and Davis are all genuinely injured, so Richard Hughes can do his light brigade act along with Mvuemba and probably Glen Little.
In defence Campbell will almost definitely be rested, Pamarot should step in, there is a chance Hreidarsson will replace Distin and maybe a rare outing for the greater spotted Duffy bird is on hand.
Kanu will replace Defoe I expect, and Crouch may also get relieved by Nugent who can continue his love affair with the cup.

Player to watch: Litttle

Has had little chance to show so far, but with Utaka mis-firing may get the chance to show he is the man for the job on the right.

Chelsea Team News:

Carvalho and Deco joined the ranks of crocks at Chelsea, Essien has already made himself at home in the sickbay.
Drogba and Ballack are still feeling their way back also.

Player to watch: Kalou

I reckon he will start and he is looking to jump up to the next stage and bag a few more goals

I don't mind losing against Chelski, just don't want another spanking. Even if we do lose, it will be nice to see some of our other players on the pitch. I am convinced that Nugent will come good if he is given a decent chance. Hughes played alright for us last year, and some of the other names mentioned will have a go at least. Not too happy about all our injuries though. Mind you, last year we came through pretty much unscathed.

Go for the win! You're playing at home and their without Carvalho and Deco. I'm sure you can win this, just get that lot out! On second thought, it could be quite difficult considering Chelsea don't HAVE any youngsters to field.

Oh we'll go for the win alright! We are going to be fielding players who will have something to prove. Its just that after three good wins on the trot, I thought we were pretty much OK, and Sunday shook me to the core. So, if we don't win this time, it won't be the end of the world for me, as long as we don't get another good hiding.

play with heart and desire to win and that will do me - roll over with a whimper, thats what gets me and others wound up...
i want us to win every game, yep this will be tough but it wont stop me wanting us to win this one as well - chances are we wont but why bother playing if you have no interest?

I reckon its a good time for the fringe players to come in and shine, especially Mvuemba who on past appearances seems to be a quick lad. Can't see Kanu and Crouch starting together as both similar sorts of players. Would like to Nugget get a run out, still feel that he hasn't been given a fair crack yet and can be one for the future still. It does my head in tho when excuses are made that the players might be tired. They are meant to be professional athletes, who train everyday to do their job, only getting three days to recover etc. Well what a shame that is, guess its lucky that they don't have to get up at 0530 and go and do a proper job all day long. At the end of the day if they weren't playing in a match they would be training instead, so even if they give 100% in the match its probably not as hard a a full blown fitness session. They do get the next day off anyhow so its not that intense. Surely playing a match every 3 - 5 days is a good way to keep the fitness levels up. for 40-80k a week they should be fit enough to play everyday if needed.

I don't know about every day, but I wouldn't have thought three times a week was a big ask for a professional athlete. I was just a slip of a thing when I was carting really heavy dinner plates and huge tureens full of soup around a restaurant on a seven hour shift and that was after I'd put a full day in in an office and cooked Gandor his dinner.

Rug, something is not right in the team. Harry needs to sort it. The attitude is all wrong. Which cannot be said for our fans who I understand did an impromptu conga around the stand after the fourth goal was conceded! Good for them. I'm off today to try and get a ticket for tonight. Don't know if I've left it too late.

Nuggets injured again so he wont be there will be good to see Mvuemba as he's definitely got something about him. Said it all before about Richard Hughes, not the most talented player we've got but he'll come in and give 100%. It'll be a chance for Glen Little to show me that I'm wrong about him. Defoe's set to be rested and i can't see a Kanu Crouch partnership so i wonder if Utaka may get a striking role tonight.
