Manu v Pompey

Pompey travel up to Manchester to try and succeed where they have usually fallen. It's quarter final time and we are in it to win it.

Vital Quotes:

Harry Redknapp has suggested that Sol Campbells nightmare on Merseyside was a one off situation, our manager fully expects his Captain to bounce back in our tie up North. John Utaka looks like stepping back in also, he has dipped out a bit lately with the arrival of Jermaine Defoe, but with the former being cup-tied may earn a repreive.

All the pundits are predicting the usual home win for United, most teams go to Old Trafford and leave empty handed, but a cup-tie is a one off, I just pray we go about it the right way and don't sit back, that's fatal!

Manu Team News:

Ryan Giggs has recovered from a calf strain and steps back into contention, Ferguson has a virtual full squad to choose from, so when they lose there can be no excuses.
Rotation has been the name of the game this season, Saha may get a rare start,Paul Scholes sat it out midweek, so pencil him in. It's a case of which deck of cards Fergie fancies playing, maybe a little rest for Rooney and Ronaldo? (please)

Player to watch: Ronaldo

He hit an unbelievable free-kick in the league game, and has hit 30 in 30 starts this term, not bad for a supposed wide-man. If he is at full throttle he is an incredible force, so we want him in 1st gear for a weekend.

Pompey Team News:

No Defoe, so Kanu looks likely to play the lone anchor up front in the 4-5-1 formation that has served us well away from home. The rest of the Africans are available as well this time, but on current form that may not be such a good thing?
Mendes has returned to the squad after a sabatical, and both he and Davis would have a fair call for a recall.

Player to watch: Utaka

Like Ronaldo he is a hell of a force on his day, trouble is his days are becoming rarer than steak tartare.
Time fro the goods please John.

Match Facts & Stats

The facts show we go to Old Trafford, we leave with nothing. Well cup final day is on my sons birthday, so you owe him Pompey, if you lose, you can explain yourselves to him, I won't this time.

Match Prediction:

I'm going for a sneaky one nil snatch, its been our cup trademark so far
paultsmouth
well ive said 'our name is on the cup' so i cannot change this, we'll win this... i hope! only 4 and a bit hours and i have to get up again...
pompeyrug
I'm just going to church to pray for a performance. That will do me the rest will follow.

Guys, basically the sun shines on a dog's arse once a day. I think you'll get a result (as a Gooner, I hope you draw, take them to a gruelling replay before beating them on pens at Fratton). United have the league and CL at the forefront of their minds and I've a feeling you could capitalise.
Little Dutch
I'm going for a 10 nil ManU win which, based on the success of my previous predictions, means Pompey will at least get a draw.
frattonaussie
come on pompey hope you can do it don't think you will but all the best boys give it your all
ozanne park rangers
This is it boys.. the day of reckoning - All I want is a performance by the Pompey players that they can be proud off when they leave the pitch. Today is NOT a day for Kanu & Utaka to be annonymous, for Sol to be slow, for Jamo for slip up, for Muntari to lose possesion, for Diop to miss a sitter, for Krunchie to take (another) crap corner.... Today IS a day for Lassie to dominate the middle with Munners by his side, for Johnno to annoy the hell out of the ManU left, for Kanu to play deft balls into the Torpedo, for Sol & Dist to boss Rooney and Tevez, for Englands No1 to show why he is soo good, for Herman to sneak around the back, fir Pedro to score a screamer.. TODAY IS A DAY FOR 11 POMPEY HEROES TO RETURN TO FRATTON VICTORIOUS - Play up Pompey we are all right behind you - Make us and yourselves proud.

somes up what i feel there chix. if that happens. dont think it will though. goodbye fa cup.
pompeycarpet
Good word Chix 'Pride'. We need to have pride in our teams performance. The whole country wants a Pompey win so lets give them something to cheer.
eastneydave
After 10 mins I'm sure we will know the outcome, if we go for it who knows?
paultsmouth
When utaka runs at full speed, not even the best defenders can catch him, perhaps we will get a penalty but who will take it . i think baros should start rather than kanu because he is quicker, and kanu is most effective from the bench.
pompeysno.9
cometh the hour, cometh the utaka (or words to that effect). today he will prove his worth to all his critics!
jbaker
If we can half a chance we have to take it & hope they miss all theirs.
storagematt
muntari scores, suddenly i like him more.. our name is defineltly on the cup...
pompeysno.9
Muntari is a legend in Ghana. Congrats guys. Can't believe we sold Johnson - he is immense and what a performance he put in for you boys today.
The_Legend_Of_Zola
just out of intrest, is this the official site for fortune tellers? "If we can half a chance we have to take it & hope they miss all theirs." - "our names on the cup" - "perhaps we will get a penalty"...
pompeycarpet
utaka didnt prove any critics wrong did he - the fella was terible, he didnt look interested at all... the fellas behind us at old trafford moaned about everyone, but utaka was awful, you would have thought it was a pre season game, not the fa cup quarter final! if he doesnt buck his ideas up between now and the summer, im sorry but i want us to say goodbye to him!
