Pompey travel up to Manchester to try and succeed where they have usually fallen. It's quarter final time and we are in it to win it.
Harry Redknapp has suggested that Sol Campbells nightmare on Merseyside was a one off situation, our manager fully expects his Captain to bounce back in our tie up North. John Utaka looks like stepping back in also, he has dipped out a bit lately with the arrival of Jermaine Defoe, but with the former being cup-tied may earn a repreive.
All the pundits are predicting the usual home win for United, most teams go to Old Trafford and leave empty handed, but a cup-tie is a one off, I just pray we go about it the right way and don't sit back, that's fatal!
Ryan Giggs has recovered from a calf strain and steps back into contention, Ferguson has a virtual full squad to choose from, so when they lose there can be no excuses.
Rotation has been the name of the game this season, Saha may get a rare start,Paul Scholes sat it out midweek, so pencil him in. It's a case of which deck of cards Fergie fancies playing, maybe a little rest for Rooney and Ronaldo? (please)
He hit an unbelievable free-kick in the league game, and has hit 30 in 30 starts this term, not bad for a supposed wide-man. If he is at full throttle he is an incredible force, so we want him in 1st gear for a weekend.
No Defoe, so Kanu looks likely to play the lone anchor up front in the 4-5-1 formation that has served us well away from home. The rest of the Africans are available as well this time, but on current form that may not be such a good thing?
Mendes has returned to the squad after a sabatical, and both he and Davis would have a fair call for a recall.
Like Ronaldo he is a hell of a force on his day, trouble is his days are becoming rarer than steak tartare.
Time fro the goods please John.
The facts show we go to Old Trafford, we leave with nothing. Well cup final day is on my sons birthday, so you owe him Pompey, if you lose, you can explain yourselves to him, I won't this time.
No Pompey predictions this time out, but leave yours here somewhere below.
Time for a Midlands duet with both Brum and Villa next week at Fratton
