Euro 2008 Prediction League - Rules

Welcome to the Euro 2008 Predictions League, many of you will be familiar with the format having taken part in the Pompey predictions league last season - it is a very simple idea, with the Euro 2008 prediction league even easier!

To take part in this simple but effective free idea all you have to do is be a member of this site - sign up here - and be willing to spent a few seconds before each Euro 2008 game to put forward your prediction for the games, simply who will win and what the result will be (from the Quarter Finals onwards also the means of the victory - 90 minutes, ET or penalties.)

You will have right up until kick off time to get in your prediction, with points then accumulated throughout Euro 2008 to determine the winner.

Each particular day that has games taking place has its own thread and you simply give your prediction on these 2 areas for the group stages, when we get to the knock-out rounds it increases to 3 areas - more on that to follow...

Group stage prediction fields

1) Who will win, lose or draw?
2) What will the match score be?

From the Quarter Finals onwards it increases to 3 prediction fields

1) Who will win, lose or draw?
2) What will the match score be?
3) How will the winning team win - normal time, extra time or penalties?

Points will be scored for correct predictions in each category and will be given as follow

  • Correctly predicted match outcome = 2pts
  • Correctly predicted scoreline = 2pts
  • Bonus points: If you are spot on with the exact result and scoreline you also get a bonus of 5pts.

    From the Quarter Finals onwards

  • Correctly predicted match outcome = 2pts
  • Correctly predicted scoreline = 2pts
  • Correctly predicted win via 90mins, ET or penalties = 2pts
  • Bonus points: It will become 10pts as the bonus if you get match outcome, correct scoreline and period of play a match is won in.

It is that simple really, but for example:
For the opening game at Euro 2008 between Switzerland v Czech Rep on Saturday 7 June I may go Czech Republic to win 3-1. If this happens I would get 2pts for the Czech win prediction, 2pts for the 3-1 scoreline prediction (4pts in total) and a bonus of 5 points for being spot on = 9pts in total.

For a knock out game I could go, and again for example:
Czech Republic to beat Germany 5-4 on penalties. If this happens I would get 2pts for the Czech win prediction, 2pts for the correct penalty shoot out scoreline prediction of 5-4, 2pts for predicting a win via a penalty shoot out (6pts) and a bonus of 10 points for being spot on on all counts = 16pts in total. You would not have to say 0-0 draw Czech to win 5-4 on penalties, you simply say Czech to win 5-4 on penalties, if this happens you get your points for that and you would then get the full house...

Only predictions within the prediction forum will count, anywhere else, even if you are right will not count – you have until kick off to register a valid prediction.

Points are carried forward continuously and the member who has the most accumulated points at the end of the competition will be the winner and will receive a prize.

This is quick, easy, free and effective.

It is a bit of fun and should get some banter going, so I hope plenty of you get involved - what have you got to lose fellas? It is not as if you are not coming on the site anyway, so take a slight detour before each game we play and join in to stand the chance of winning something.

    So who is in?

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

Although Tim, with only 33 points out of a possible 78, I am not sure he would even pick 2 winning numbers!
