Pompey Predictions League – table update #14

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

Two down before most people's hot Bovril had cooled to drinking temperature meant we were always going to struggle against a team who dominated us last season in the corresponding fixture. It put a mild dent into my day seeing the result during a very busy spell at work, but I'm not overly surprised.

That being said, USPF was the only person who guessed the 2-1 defeat correctly and is hitting form with 2-correct in a row which has lifted a dismal 5 points into 45 and joint 4th place overall, joining the pack. Morgan grabbed a 5 point consolation as the only other point scorer and is now only 5 points behind Jim Smith’s Wig who has seen his lead drop by 20 points in two games.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #15

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

The game was set up for disappointment with a crowd of over 18000. So often the team have disappointed and today was no different. A lot of effort but no finishing power would lead to a lapse of concentration at the back and another defeat. We are a mid-table team this year, so we’ll take the good with the bad.

When I questioned Morgan's prediction, this was her reasoning for the selection. She doesn't have the same passion for the club as her old man, but she follows the Blues as her team. Maybe it is that perspective that has sent her clear at the top of the table. A 50 point month has seen Morgan pull back Jim Smith's Wig's 20 point lead from midway through October. Chris and Storage Matt were the other scorers today, while Khodgkins blew his 5-points by switching to a draw.

Morgan takes the October monthly title, edging out the resurgent USPF who came second on 45.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #16

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

With Blackpool is mild disarray off the field, Pompey stole the points in a solid performance oop North last weekend. It is wins like this that can kickstart a nice run, so there seems to be a growing confidence that this could be the start of a good period.

Blue Exile and Langston grabbed the maximum points while Steaming also believed in the Blues. Dorking did his usual 2-0 Pompey win before changing it later in the week. The biggest controversy is still awaiting an outcome as JSW is yet to respond to the query listed on the thread. Confusion still reigns on that issue.

Looking forward to a good atmosphere at Fratton Park as Southend visit the South Coast.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #17

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

In the 80s, Arsenal did well be getting 1-0 wins every week. Pompey might be taking on this mantle as another tepid performance at least garnered the 1-0 success and secured three points to solidify the Blues in the top half. Pittman has over half of the team's goals and after some early season derision, is showing his finishing class at this level.

Daughter of Wiggy and K Hodgkins achieved maximum points for the scoreline, while 11 of the top 14 were confident in the Pompey win. Morgan maintains her 20 point lead over Jim Smith's Wig while we also saw Dedman get off the mark with his first prediction of the season.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #18

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

Peterborough started the season well and have only slipped to mid table in recent weeks. This becomes the perfect recipe for a banana skin performance from Pompey and so it became. We got what we deserved from the game and Chaplin's consolation goal really wasn't deserved. With the dearth of proper derby games, we invent the Dockside Derby again this weekend, knowing that Portsmouth is the only true Southern dockyard.

Three predictors gained 5 points each as Dasha, USPF and Blue Exile guessed that Peterborough would disappoint the Blues. Dorking, for the second time, changed from a perfect scoreline to a Pompey win and suffered yet another duck egg as a result.

An update from a previous game as the Blackpool conundrum was resolved. Jim Smith's Wig and his son gained an extra 5 points, while his daughter gained 20 points after 'dad' blamed his son for not putting in the results the correct and proper way. It was several years of doing it the correct way that prompted the enquiry, but rather than set a precedent, we must draw the line and say that while doing the best to be fair, we will take the final result written for each predictor as it is written in future.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #19

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

Pompey seemed to have the game under control for most of the 90 minutes, but a nervy finish seems to be par for the course at Fratton Park. Naismith bagged the three points for the proper naval dockyard as Pompey jumped to 7th place in the league.

Almost everyone gained 5 points from the game, while three players, Morgan, Daughter of Wiggy and Ibizan Blue scored the maximum 20. Morgan increased her lead at the top to 35 points from Jim Smith’s Wig and his daughter who has come from nowhere into third spot.

Daughter of Wiggy won the monthly compo with 40 points, while Langston came second on 30 and a trio of players who got 25.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #20

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

3800 voices rang out loud and proud to spoil Charlton’s party last weekend. Three predictors had the same euphoric feeling by predicting the single goal win by the Blues. A total reversal of the game 25 years before was well earned and put Pompey on the verge of jumping into the promotion places.

The Wiggy family closed the gap on Morgan as both Jim Smith’s Wig and his daughter grabbed the maximum points to close the gap at the top to just 15 while increasing the lead over 4th placed Steaming to 30 points. 5th place is now held by Dasha who claimed the other maximum score.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #21

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

Only Pompey fans can get miserable after a win, but ultimately it was three more points in the bag, even if the performance was dire. Maybe that is cynical, but we should be performing better against the bottom club, regardless of their park the bus attitude. That said, it is a win and perches us right under the play-off spots going into Christmas.

Everyone who predicted got points except for Chris and Wife of Wiggy who both predicted draws. Daughter of Wiggy got her third correct score on the bounce and is now only 5 points behind Morgan, while 'Dad, AKA Jim Smith's Wig slipped to third place.

Shrewsbury will be a difficult game, but might also show us where Pompey really are in League 1. A win would be a second away success against promotion rivals which would cement the recent run of wins.

As we go into Christmas, may I wish everyone a joyous and Merry Christmas and thank you for playing.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #22

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

A game which Pompey never really looked comfortable in saw Shrewsbury start the Christmas program with a comfortable 2-0 win. After briefly maintaining a stalemate and a penalty save, the inevitable happened and Pompey succumbed to the better team.

Pompey's recent run of form prompted most players to predict a win or draw for the blues, however it was the middle of the pack that prospered today, with Blue Exile, Khodgkins and Langston grabbing 5 points and USPF achieving the only maximum.

The girls still lead it at the top as the Wiggy family duels USPF family in the top 4 slots, while the two Dad’s lie 3rd and 4th. Steaming is in 5th spot. Let's see what Pompey can do against the Wombles on Boxing day

Have a great Christmas everyone and Play up Pompey.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #23

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

A nervy but deserved 2-1 home win brought some post Christmas cheer to Fratton Park as Pompey maintained a strong home presence in their search for back to back promotions. In what was, to be fair, another uninspiring performance, it was Brett Pitman who scored the winner.

Trina, Blue Exile and Ibizan Blue all scored maximum points, while 11 of the top 12 at the start of the day added to their tally. Blue Exile joined USPF in 4th place, heading the chasing posse, while the top three remain unchanged, away in the distance as Jim Smith's Wig is just a few points of the leading ladies, Morgan and Daughter of Wiggy.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #24

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

A nice 3-1 win for Pompey continued a solid Christmas program for the Blues as they secured their 8th win in 10 games. An Ollie Hawkins brace and Matty Kennedy strike was a positive response to the Cobblers goal on 36 minutes.

Ibizan Blue scored the only maximum, but all but three predicted a home success. While USPF and Blue Exile joined the triple-digit club but there is no change at the top as Morgan, daughter of Wiggy and Jim Smith's Wig continue to plough ahead with the points.

Daughter of Wiggy won the December award with 50 points, while Ibizan Blue came close behind with 45.

Happy New Year to everyone.

No change in the league positions as everyone fell for the new found confidence and predicted at least a point for the Southerners. It looked that it would be another sneaky 1-0 victory until McGee couldn't hold on to a long range shot and Rovers found enough belief in themselves to strike again in injury time.

Morgan and Daughter of Wiggy lead the way with Jim Smith's Wig in third place. USPF and Blue Exile fill the top 5 that have scored over 100 points as we enter the second half of the season.

Typical Pompey to be fair; many expected the home win but alas, we were back to Pompey being Pompey, and S****horpe left the South Coast with a point. Apologies that it has taken a week for the update, but watching the game showed that the season will be long.

Chris 1954, Ibizan Blue and Wife of Wiggy achieved the maximum scores this week, while Storage Matt and Jim Smith's Wig picked up the 5 points for expecting the draw. The only change in the table sends Jim Smith Wig closer to his daughter, but Ibizan Blue joined the 100 club and comes in equal 4th

Rotherham away is the next game up and the northerners grabbed an unlikely win at Fratton Park, so hopefully the Blues will be up for revenge.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #27

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

I woke up 15 minutes before kick-off and seriously considered staying in bed…… 90 minutes later I was ruing my decision to listen to an awful game, where, sadly, we all knew that the late goal would be conceded. We were shown to be correct and the 1500 fans that travelled up North had a long journey home, where Pompey hadn't troubled their keeper.

That sounds a little negative, but to three predictors, obviously this seems to be correct. Langston, Steaming and USPF were the three who predicted a home win, and all guessed the 1-0 scoreline. Steaming and USPF both jumped into the top 5 and closed the gap on the runaway three.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #29

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

A poor start by a keeper returning to the club who many were happy when he left. Once Pompey got back on level terms it seemed we were only waiting for Marquis to score and he duly obliged. As the minutes ticked on, it was Brett Pitman who scored from close range to secure a point.

Three players predicted a draw, though no one thought it would be 2-2. USPF closed the gap on Morgan and drew further clear of the chasing pack. Dasha and Wife of Wiggy moved up a couple of places each.

This has been a poor start to 2018 for both Pompey, and subsequently their loyal and hopeful predictors. Let’s look forward to next Saturday......

Pompey Predictions League – table update #30

What a finish and somewhat undeserved, but who cares, we'll take it. A poached Connor Chaplin goal sealed the points deep into injury time but the underlying problem still continues that after the opening 20 minutes, Pompey didn't really look in the game, until the last 5 minutes.

The late goal changed everything in the competition as Dasha was happily holding the only points with 5 minutes to go. The equalizer meant that 4 players who had got 1-1 predictions now looked like grabbing maximum scores, but even that hope disappeared with that last kick, meaning everyone was involved a points grab at some point late in this game.

Morgan increased her lead at the top, while the chasing pack picked up ground on USPF. Trina was the only maximum point scorer, but maybe she can give Rug some pointers.

Pompey Predictions League – table update #31

Over to uspompeyfan with his latest update to the 2017-18 season...

Oh for the life of a Pompey fan! Saturday saw a last minute win to have us jumping the joy, while a similar late goal slumped us back to earth as Pompey threw away a couple of points to high flying Blackburn. Pompey had looked good against one of the league’s better sides and a draw would have been a kinder result.

Chris1954, Langston and Dorking all scooped maximum points, while USPF picked up 5 consolation points to close the gap on Morgan.

Morgan leads by 15 points from USPF, with a further 10 points back to Daughter of Wiggy, who leads her father by a further 5 points.
