Kyle Bennett

Jed Wallace will leave big boots to fill this summer, with him almost certain to leave with Fulham, Ipswich and Wolves linked - early 'reports' say Doncaster's Kyle Bennett might be the man to do this?

The News says Paul Cook has shown an interest in the 24-year-old, who is coming to the end of his contract with the league one side but with the attacking midfielder as yet to commit his future to Doncaster with his performances this season seeing 'his stock rise' and that has also 'alerted a number of clubs towards his availability this summer.'

Sounds like a promising player.

Agree that Jed is almost impossible to replace at this level. But if we get a decent fee for him, that money alone could rebuild the team to play in Cook's mould. A couple of decent midfielders and a defender could certainly be secured if we get a decent fee for Jed.

Certainly does and IF the News is right, and Cook's confirmed he's met with him, Bennett could soon come in...

That's the worry/issue with Wallace again IF it's true that we'll only get £250,000, as that's the release clause, we'll not get much for him will we!

The lad from Donny looks decent enough to me and I have faith that Cookie knows his stuff. He scored a few but assists is probably just as important for where we are, we have Tubbs who can hopefully shoulder the burden of goals.

regarding Jed - I think there must be add ons to that clause - dont forget we could have lost him last season for peanuts so we didnt have much of a position to negotiate from. £250k is still a fair bit of cash to throw around at this level.

If the News is right Kyle Bennett will reject Doncaster's offer and sign on the dotted line, possibly joined by Villa's Edna Stevens but Jed Wallace is heading for Fulham, Wolves and Ipswich are still interested mind!

This summer should be an exciting one of ins and outs at Fratton.

We've already seen plenty of 'outs' with Paul Cook ruthless in his axing of out-of-contract players and the former coaching staff left behind from Andy Awford's time but it's the 'ins' we should soon start enjoying...the first of which is 'expected' to be 24-year-old winger Bennett.

If this one does happen, it'll be a rare occurrence... Pompey signing a player that other clubs actually want!!

It will send out a message that we mean what we say - we want to get out of this God awful division!

Are the Pompey Ladies recruiting also? If Edna is a goalkeeper, will she be able to play in the promotion game on Sunday, as the team are having G.Keeping problems? Sorry, couldnt resist that.

Good news!

Whatever people say, Cook doesn't mess about.

He'll ultimately be judged on these decisions, but he is wasting no time.

A criticism I have had in the past is how we end up going through pre-season, only to sign players once the season has started. Getting them in early should give him time to get them playing his way.

If his way doesn't work, well so be it, but at least he is getting it set-up.

Nice one Cook!

Can we say Kyle Bennett is Jed Wallace's replacement, following his departure to Wolves? Maybe, maybe not but one thing that's certain is the Doncaster winger's joined Pompey to become Paul Cook's first signing.

His signing on a 2-year contract, on a free as he's turned down a new Donny deal, was confirmed on the Pompey Site shortly after the departure of Wallace.

Cook was done brilliant to bring in Bennett so early especially with Wallace's departure on the same day, kind of lessens the blow.
Hopeful that Cook can add another couple of signings before the month is over to get us really going.
I wonder whether the idea is to build the team around Bennett and Tubbs now?

Lets face it former Doncaster man Kyle Bennett is right, Pompey getting off to a winning start was the most important thing against Dagenham at Fratton on Saturday although his two-goal debut wasn't bad was it!

He, lets also face it, would have been delighted by his debut performance and a cracking couple of goals too - if anything he 'might' have been disappointed NOT to be left on to try and get his hat-trick....

Another wide man to take over from Jed as Pompey's top scorer? sounds good to me as long as he finishes the season with as many goals as Jed got last time out.

Proud!

Yep, I was left 'disappointed', to say the least by a few idiots with what they've allegedly done from the stands!

Disappointing! - click here.

Although the more I think about it and the more I reflect, see and hear I'm very 'proud' of the performance and account Pompey gave ON the pitch on Tuesday.

If Pompey weren't going to win against Reading, as much as a defeats still a defeat whatever, we would have wanted come away from this feeling we couldn't really have offered up anything more...

I think it'll probably be fair to say this was the case, wouldn't you?

Kyle Bennett has certainly, who was himself along with only a couple of other players to stay in the starting XI from the 3-3 draw with Morecambe a few days earlier, told portsmouthfc.co.uk he feels 'pride' following this game, which is something we should all feel

The problem with wide men at this level is they are inconsistent. If they were regularly playing well they would be at a higher level. Just look at the recent past - Ricky Holmes, Andy Barcham and further back even the great Alan Rogers.

Jed was much more consistent and that is why he is now in the Championship!

I think Bennett is a cracking little player, far better than L2, he plays,in the lower reaches for a reason, but at this level I doubt we'll see a much better winger at the Park on a Saturday all season.
Jed was more consistent when he showed up, think he tried too hard to be the only player on the pitch too many times in my umble opinion.

Oh, I do agree Dave don't get me wrong and have said those very thoughts several times.
