Redknapp aiming very high!

Harry Redknapp has often 'aired on the cautious approach' with our chances for this season - but having already recently expressed the opinion that 'Europe is the target this season' he has now told the Pompey site that 4th spot, and a possible place in next season champions league is not out of reach: 'at the start of the year I would have said it was completely unrealistic - I couldn't see past the usual four being there again.

'I looked at Liverpool's squad when we played them in Hong Kong and I thought they would challenge. They've brought in some top players this year.

'But for whatever reason they're not up there. They've got no chance of winning it and they haven't even pulled away from the rest.

'If you'd have said to me at the start of the year that we'd be sitting not too far behind them at this stage, then I wouldn't have believed you.

'There are a lot of good sides around us like Villa, Everton and Blackburn fighting it out as well but we're in the mix and we've got a chance. It's a possibility and there's everything to play for.

'It gets a bit monotonous with the same four teams up there every year, so it would be nice if someone else could break in there - it needs to be done'.

Yep, for the good of the premier league something needs to change, so why not? It might not happen - but who is to say it will not, aim high I say, if we fall short then we 'should' still have a fantastic end to the season...

I know that Everton, Villa and Blackburn all feel that they are good enough to finish in 4th spot, so if they think that they can then why should we not feel the same? When all our players are back and fit I would say that we have a squad on a par - some might argue better - than these.

Of course Liverpool cannot be written off, as in theory they 'should' finish 4th, they really should be closer to the top of the table than they are, but again they have flattered to deceive so far... I have made not secret for most of the season of my thoughts that a new team will enter the top 4 at Liverpool's expense; I am not changing this opinion now.

Spurs were the team I was thinking of in the summer, but this is not likely now is it, but again you can never say never. As much as Everton would 'probably' be my tip at this point in time why should we write ourselves of eh fellas?

What is obvious is that if we have any chance of making this happen we must no two ways about it beat Bolton tomorrow and then Sunderland the game after, which comes after our FA cup game next weekend.

It is very tight and as we have the 'big 4' out of the way who knows. Keep squad fit and healthy then Top 4 and the FA Cup!!

AND THE WAY THE FA CUP IS BEING SEEN TO UNFOLD WE COULD HAVE A CHANCE OF A BIT OF GLORY THAT WAY TOO- mind for the likes of our little Devonshire possee tickets for wembley would be very hard to come by

i have a very good feeling about the fa cup this season - however like you say graham should we make it to wembley i dont think we have much chance of picking up tickets do we, infact i would say we dont have much chance at all, this is not being 'defeatist' i think i am being honest...

'champions league - 'aving a laugh'... or are we? i dont think its that far fetched tbh, if others think they can, with a bit of luck, players staying fit and so on why not!

IT CAN BE DONE ! - Arry neglected to mention citeh as a suitor as well though, and the Hammers have a shot at it too. We need to win our remaining home games, one or two on the road and draw the rest I reckon. Can you imagine Fratton Park hosting a Champions League game - priceless. I'm just amazed to hear Arry talk this way as well (has he been in the sauce again :)

I'd have a real dilemma if I did manage to get my hands on FA cup final tickets - would have to cancel the holiday!

it is really good to hear isnt it... lets just hope that 'if' we do lose a game coming up we dont get the 'look where we were 5 years ago talk' again... i know tracy, if you can get a cup final ticket how about i take that off you and you still go on your holiday ;-)

we get about 25,000 tickets i think, and thats 13,500 or whatsoever season ticket holders, whereas for example, man u have 65,000 season ticket holders! theres a chance u could get a ticket, but why am i discussing this already? oh are semis played at wembley? and we need to keep up with liverpool, man city and everton. if we do this and aim for 4th, then the 6th-7th should come naturally. i dont think villa and blackburn have enough to consistently keep up with us.

Harry kind of has to come out and say this after turning Newcastle down. He's making amends for the last few weeks. I'll be happy with UEFA and finishing higher than Spurs.

tracyc i whole heartedly agree, and it depends on Sulley and PBD gelling back in and Kanu gelling with the back out

Rug.. I'm gonna say it.... We should not forget where we were five or ten years ago.... it's not only our past it should be motivational for all of us to ensure we get behind the team and their aspirations and make sure we never return... There's no room for complacany in the premiership.. all you have to have is one bad season and you're back in the coco cola dreaming of what might have been ... and finding it very diffiuclt to get out of .. Look at Leeds, Charlton, Coventry, Palace, Norwich, Scummers, Ipswich, Leicester, Sheff Wednesday the list goes on... Reach for the stars by all means but we should always remember who and what you are... It's what makes US Pompey.... As for 4th.. doable?.. It'll be though but this is the season to do it ..... as long as it doesn't adversely affect our league status next year like Europe did for Ipswich, Leeds and Everton !!

dont get me wrong i do still oftn think that to myself, but i dont want 'arry to start 'using' that speech as a 'defence' should things go belly up, as it can only be used as a defence so many times - know what i mean...

I'm having a dream. "Harry being optimistic and happy" No it can't be true-it must be a dream. I am not sure we can win the FA Cup but do we get a spot in Europe for being runner up?
