'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Primus clarifies things...

Linvoy Primus has spoken to pfcTV to clarify comments that were attributed to him recently, clarifying that 'they were taken out of context' and that he does not see his footballing career anywhere else other than 'his home' at Fratton Park: 'everything has been taken out of proportion concerning where I feel my future lies.

'I've always said that I have to concentrate on my knee first and make sure that is right - then the contract takes care of itself.

'So there are no thoughts about me having played my last game for Pompey or that my future might lie elsewhere.

'I have a fitness programme which is going nicely and on schedule and that now is the focus.

'I feel the club have looked after me well, twice sending me out to America to the Steadman Clinic to give me the best possible treatment.

'I believe the club has shown faith in me - and I'm very grateful for that as this is the first club I've played for that feels like home.

'I have a house nearby and when my football eventually finishes I want to be living in it for life.

'This is the place where I want to be. I'm grateful for the support the fans give me - so the next time I run out I want it to be in a Pompey shirt'.

Having read what he had said, and given it some thought the club have gone to the trouble to get him the best treatment that they can - and Richard Steadman is the best of the best - so would they really have done this just to release him at the end of his contract for someone else to benefit? Would he carry on playing if we did release him?

If he is fit to carry on - and I have no doubts at all that he will - maybe on reflection I should have let me heart rule my thinking more than my head, as I am thinking more along the lines now that it is more likely than not that Primus will actually get a new contract now...

Maybe I am being too sentimental or even 'naive' with my thinking though?

Richard Steadman is the bloke that did Owen Shearer and Keane isn't he ? ... hopefully Linv can turn out in the Pompey Blue again.... I'm sure most Pompey fans would love him to get fit and force his way back into the first team... Might even replace Sol ... or am I just be contentious for the sake of it ?
Chix
Ooh Chix; now there's a thought. I can see Linvoy in the heart of the defence, perhaps from the start of next season.
UKTony
who he replaces will be a big discussion, as i think distin has been amazing this season, and perhaps sol not up to last seasons standards? and linvoy was amazing last year, if it was capello in charge surely he would have had a call up?
jbaker
Glad things are not quite as dark as they sounded in the previous article - Linvoy has fought his way back into the team before, I'm sure he can do it again.
tracyc
and judging by his profile photo i think no-one would be happier than rug. you've stuck by ur pic of linvoy. lets just hope we can hear the fratton end singing "linvoy, linvoy" a few more times
jbaker
Contentiuos Chix. Rub some cream on it!!! With 7 subs for next season, if Linvoy is fit to play, he could amongst them if not already on the pitch.
storagematt
I think every one would love "Linvoy" to get fit and obtain another contract. Players of his breed are few and far between. Tragically in the present climate anything is possible.

as said i have a good feeling about optimus primus' chances of staying now, on relflection - for the reasons i give above... i really do think that sol will move on this summer, so we will need optimus as cover if nothing else, but i wouldnt bet against a fantastic pre season seeing him come in as a starter next season - as the captain perhaps...
pompeyrug
yep you are right bakes i love - man love - optimus, my background on my pc is a picture of optimus on one half benji on the other and has been for a couple of years - as you also point out my icon in the forum has been optimus from the start, and will never change!
pompeyrug
Linvoy for England!!!!
tracyc
i can imagine you growing dreadlocks just to be like linvoy and benji. talking of benji do the club shop still do benjani on the back of shirts? and if primus was made captain, that would be the perfect tribute to the perfect centre back
jbaker
i had long hair back along, but then had it all cut off at the end of last summer... i am growing it back tho i think - mainly as i cant be bothered to have it cut - so if linvoy gets a new contract and im still growing altho i think i will look ridiculous i may get dreads as a 'tribute' :-)
pompeyrug
Maybe you could get a screensaver made rug, that would keep us all in high spirits. I'd have it set to one minute refresh...
cornypomp
no further comment, only what I believe already...
pompeygray
as the result of a long sequence of bets, i have to grow my hair until the summer and then die it pink for a week before cutting it, in order to get £50. this could be a very weird looking vital pompey in the summer...
