Jermain Defoe will finish the top scorer for Pompey this season! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Chix's poll are thoughts that I would like to agree with, and think 'could' happen but would not stake too much on... although I do like a little flutter so I would be tempted to put down a little bet!
Benjani left this week with 12 goals to his name - see below in the 'current poll' section for further thoughts on this - and whilst Defoe started with a goal on his debut - which could have been 3 on another day - with only 13 league games to play this season he would need to average almost a goal per game between now and the end of the season to do this...
I would not bet against Defoe managing this feat, particularly given some of the teams that we face but it is a tall order, but not impossible by any means particularly for a striker of his pedigree and goalscoring ability.
'If' Defoe could go on to score a further 12 goals between now and May, as all of these would come in the league - as he is cup tied - then I think that we would almost certainly make it into a European position at the end of the season, although it is not to say that we will not by any means even if he cannot.
What the poll asked - With Benji gone and Defoe off the mark who do you think will finish as Pompey's top scorer?
How you voted - Defoe 42%, Benjani 39%, Baros 5%, Nugent 3%, Utaka 3%, Muntari 3%, Kanu 2%, Kranjcar 2%, Diarra 1%
Current Poll - Benjani finally completed his '£7.75m' transfer to Man City this week - but we only got half this amount up front, but 'might' get more, with Pompey confident that 'we will get the full amount'...
The rest of the money that we get for the 3rd top scorer in the what is considered 'the best league in the world' is dependant on how many games he plays, so how many do you think he will play - this is what whitestones wants to know with this - 'how many games do you think Benji will play for Man City?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.
PLAY UP POMPEY!
