'If It's Football, It's Vital'

James targets 2010 world cup finals

David James was 'buzzing' after playing the full 90 minutes of England's friendly with Switzerland yesterday, and as he told The Daily Mail he is here to stay, as he is targeting being the England no.1 up to and including the 2010 world cup finals: 'It's a case of one step at a time but I want to be England No1 at the 2010 World Cup. I have a contract at Portsmouth, which will see me through to that World Cup.

'If I am playing first-team football in the Premier League for Portsmouth, I should be in a position where I could play first-team football for England. The only thing that is going to stop me is better goalkeepers.

'I am buzzing about the fact I started, even more so to play 90 minutes.

'People were wondering if I would play because in the past new managers have had new starts and you anticipate you are not going to be involved.

'I didn't feel nervous at all. I thought beforehand there could be a bit of pressure but I felt good and I want to experience that again'.

James did what he had to do, he had a couple of 'nervy moments' and a 'slight' rush of blood to the head at the death, but it is my thinking that that was merely one of the rare instances that we see where he is 'bored' of having nothing to do, so his concentration wonders momentarily as he tries to get involved.

Despite people thinking his age is a factor against him, as I keep saying I have no doubt that he could be the England no.1 through until 2010, as he will most likely be Pompey's no.1 until then - and probably beyond...

Quality is what counts. They say 'if they're good enough they're old enough' about the yougsters. So why not apply it to Jamo. He is good enough & certainly better than Carson.

james is as fit as hes ever been, maybe fitter. can't see any reason he shouldn't go to 2010, been the best keeper this season without question. Just needs to convince capello and the rest of the england fans his lapses in concentration are behind him.

Good on ya David, England's No.1 is a deserved mantle to wear.

at the moment he certainly is the best english keeper and he deserves to be played. as for whether he will be able to maintain his high form for another 2.5 years, only time will tell, but getting the nod from cappello will only help to motivate him to do so

According to Graeme Souness last week Jamo is in the best condition of his life and he should know he signed him from Watford in 1992. Having watched hom closely for two seasons I for one agree.

If jamo is only worried about a better keeper coming along.. he needn't worry .. he's got the No1 shirt now (at long last) now it's up to the others to try and take it off him.. I don't see many contenders on the horizon .. do you ?

noone is sparkling at the moment, perhaps that is capello's plan, to force Robinson, and Carson to raise their games to earn their spot, very smart

david james is without a doubt the best english keeper at the moment. we are soo lucky to have him. thank you harry.

yep jamo is the best english keeper around, and as we all know has been for the past 2 years, i hope im wrong but i have this feeling that capello isnt to sure on him tho?

Jamo is the best - if Fabio's unsure I'm sure he won't be after a couple more games. I thought Motson made too much of that last minute thing - he came out for the corner and missed it, there were bodies everywhere at the time. He got all the others. Is he supposed to stay on his line and not go for it? Motson tried to blame him for the goal as well - there are a lot of people who can't get past mistakes made 3 or 4 years ago. Jamo will prove them wrong and will be the number 1 for 2010, I'm sure of it.
