Jamo - England's no.1...

...by the looks of it...

David James is being 'tipped' to stake his claim to be the England no.1 that he should have already been for the past couple of season, as Fabio Capello is expected to name him in goal for the friendly with Switzerland tonight.

The 37 year old appears to have a chance to prove that his age will not be a hindrance for him, and now has his chance to start making himself the no.1 ahead of the world cup qualifying campaign.

My own thinking is there is no reason at all why James cannot go on up to and including the world cup finals in 2010 as the no.1 as he is as fit and agile as ever, and in my honest opinion better than he has ever been!

Regulars to Vital Pompey will know that when we have an away fixture we run a 'live feature', where the teams are announced and we then discus the game as it goes along - however we are following it. 'Should' James be confirmed in the starting 11 - and hopefully Jermain Defoe a place on the bench - I was thinking of doing this tonight, so hopefully some of you will join in?

Either way this feature will be happening at the weekend when we travel to Bolton, speaking of which if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this game do it here...

From a Pompey's & England's viewpoint brilliant news. Why on earth everybody goes on about Scott Carson, god only knows. Watch the goals he concedes foe Villa, he is quite often easily beaten. Look at the Fulham, free kick on Sunday. It's only the ghosts of the past that haunt Jamo. Everybody, except muppet McClaren, knows Jamo over the last few years has been the best.

Fantastic news, he deserves this so much.

Isn't it different now the Wally with the Brolley has gone away - Fabio has no reason to share his prejudices - against Pompey, against Jamo in particular, and the difference is so noticeable already. And its refreshing.

Whilst I think James IS best English keeper I think these types of games are when experiments should be tried and a young keeper given his turn. If they fail James is always there for another day. Realistically James only has another 2 years or so left so sooner or later a young keeper has to be used and you wouldn't want a keeper to debut against Germany or similar.

but couldnt they then take over after jamo has single handidly won us the world cup in 2010... we would have friendlies and such before the euro 2012 qualifying began afterm and also friendlies between that time - jamo is the best so should be the keeper for me it is that simple 37 or not...

cappello said hes gonna choose the best players at the time, which to be fair to him hes done (ashley young and david bentley are quality) so by his law, jamo should be in the squad at least til 2010, and perhaps longer. according to pompey players hes the "perfect athlete" so hes gonna carry on past 40 surely?

and by all means lets have this live thing. ill be in and out of it, but yeah go for it

Didn't manage to keep a clean sheet but there was n't much he could do about the goal... An conpetent performance even if he did give us a bit of a scare at the end when he came for a cross and didn't get it ... Did enought to earn his place in the next squad I think.. Away to France.. that'll be a harder test..
