HR on Diarra, Defoe and the game
Once again Lassana Diarra was absolutely fantastic for Pompey when he put in another dazzling display against his former side in our draw yesterday, and Harry Redknapp was quick to pay tribute to him on sky sports: 'the little fella in midfield was magnificent.
'Makelele's a great player, but he can be better.
'He will be a top, top, top player, there's no doubt about that'.
The fella certainly is something else - as I have previously said the better he does the harder it will be to keep hold of him but at the same time the better he does the better we 'should' do ourselves. I would think that we 'must' get into Europe next season for him to be here at the start of the 2008/09 season...
After tracking his young protégé Jermain Defoe for so long Redknapp was finally able to secure the signing of the fella on deadline day and he was pleased with his debut and the goal he scored: 'it's great for him to start with a goal.
'In all honesty he could have won the game for us today, but he's not had a lot of football recently.
'He's a fantastic young player. He's been scoring goals since I've known him since 15'.
Defoe is a goalscorer and in 90 minutes he has probably shown enough to convince that he could score a bag full of goals for us... but did we not think this anyway?
As far as the game goes Redknapp thought it was a good game and 'a good advert' for the league but stopped short of saying we got what we deserved: 'we did well. All round it was a good performance. It was a terrific game.
'We kept slugging away and they kept hitting us on the break. It was a good advert for the Premier League today'.
Had we come away from the game empty handed it would have been criminal as we had arguably done enough in the 2 games against Chelsea this season to have got all 6, let alone the solitary 1 point we have - had we ended up with none it would have been more than unjust.
I doubt many other teams will be able to boast an unbeaten record at home again 'the big 4' come May...
PLAY UP POMPEY!
