Nugent resting after surgery

Nugent resting after surgery

The fact that Dave Nugent had gone to, and has now returned from Germany after his hernia operation has not gone unnoticed - it is something that I had planned to write about but things have been hectic the past 24 hours or so...

Nugent had been carrying a problem and was unable to take part in the 2nd half against Plymouth last weekend, so he flew out to see a specialist this week, and it was confirmed he needed a hernia operation, so this specialist performed it.

He is now back home and is resting up for the weekend, but will be back in the gym on Monday as he starts his rehabilitation.

Many might feel that the arrival of firstly Milan Baros on loan and then dramatically Jermain Defoe late in the day on deadline day, added to the fact that we also have Kanu, John Utaka - who could play up front - and maybe even Benjani still will mean that he is less likely to feature in the remainder of this season, and would be even more likely to move on in the summer... but I am not convinced by this.

Preferably I would like to see a Defoe and Benjani pairing, but if he leaves it will probably be Defoe and Baros - at least until Nugent is fit. Although having said that Kanu is probably bound to feature, when fit?

Maybe it will not happen, but I do think that Defoe and Nugent could be a pretty handy partnership so I would not write this off as the longer term option just yet...

Defoe & Nugent does sound like workable partnership - and they did score that goal in England jerseys didn't they ? HOWEVER...I'm hoping wie keep Benji, play three at the back, Diarra & Diop in shallow midfield, Muntari & Krunchie beyond then Benji with Defoe & Baros up front.

...yeah I know, but it's o.k. to dream about it !

Selection issues up front! It must be the first team in many many years....and even when a Pompey manager had such issues in the past, they weren't strikers of this quality. Happy days!
01/02/2008 14:16:00
happy days indeed, and maybe nugent can tap in a defoe ***** to finally get that goal we all want him to get!
01/02/2008 14:46:00
The £6m man, we can rebuild him...
01/02/2008 15:24:00
we are a bit top heavy at the moment arent we, so I guess the injuries to kanu and nuge arent that significant. I really hope kanu doesnt get a new contract, he has been very poor this season and he will only be worse next season.
01/02/2008 15:28:00
i meant to say shot, dunno why its been starred out? and thats what he did for his england goal ;) and yes, i agree, kanu is past it. but on occasions hes fantastic!

bidumtisch storagematt, Nugent had just started to get a rapport with Benji and i think the Defoe could if he changes a bit add to it. I dont think we consider utaka a goal scorer anymore, i feel baros is not going to perform, he didnt really want to come, and in regards to signing he has already said on sky "it depends if he can get up to speed with the english game", so your off then Milan. i think we have shown far too much loyalty to kanu, to have aa ball holding striker he has to be able to move to the ball... at least a bit.. he was great, the relavent word being was, i think we need to look to the future and he.shouldnt really get another game, although i am sure he will.

Kanu only needs to come off the bench another three times between now and the end of the season and he gets the contract ... 20 appearances that was the deal, so unless Harry freezes him out (and he ain't likely to do that) then he is here for another year....... Just imagine he could get slower next year ;) Anyway... get well soon Nuge and I'm sure Harry had you in mind when he signed both Baros and Defoe... Learn from 'em fella and one day.. maybe one day... you too could go out with a girl that's been on Big Brother or spend £200,000 on a kitchen
01/02/2008 19:26:00
lol chix. nugent will be great! give him time. ideally, benji will stay, but i am concerned that harry doesnt seem to want him?
