Benjani STILL a Pompey player...

Benjani STILL a Pompey player...

The proposed transfer of Benjani to Man City has not gone through after all according to the Man City Site!

A City spokesman - Paul Tyrrell - said: 'due to the late arrival of the player in Manchester we were unable to complete the transfer'.

So not only did we sign Jermaine Defoe we also kept Benjani.

This could not have been some ploy to keep Benjani and get Defoe as well - surely not? - as Harry Redknapp had been speaking to sky sports news shortly after the Defoe deal was confirmed, and he said: 'It's a good move [for Benjani] and we've more than doubled our money.

'It's great business'.

Someone has made a balls up somewhere, but this has worked in our favour, although it will be interesting to see what sort of reaction we get from Benjani as it will not be easy coming back to Pompey and having to look Redknapp in the eye knowing that he was happy to sell him...

What price Benjani starting up front alongside Defoe this weekend though fellas...

Don't want to put a dampner on things but every where i've seen Harry quoted he's said the Defoe deal was dependent on Benji going, we may not have heard the last of this yet.

I can't see it being awkward though because he's got such a great relationship with everyone at FP. Very, very, interesting and our team is even stronger even if we are seriously IN DEBT. Oooh bloody errrr.

this is the best news of the year! i doubt benji will make it to trainig in the morn, as he had a medical around midnight (we should even allow the best of players some sleep). talking of sleep, id better retire for the night/morn, and im expecting some happy fans!

Yeah i've got a funny feeling there's some kind of cancellation period. Another headline grabbing saga bought to you by Portsmouth Football Club.

as i said to jbaker we'll just have to make sure that we get into europe to wipe this debt out, defoe, baros, benji, nuge, utaka and kanu between them 'should' make this happen - shouldnt they...

we might not even have to play kanu (unless he proves he can run) which could be good. finally harry has his man, and to no expense (as of yet). perhaps benji not going meant we couldnt afford spiderman?

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.
