Defoe completes his Pompey move?

Sky sports news is reporting that a deal for Jermaine Defoe has been completed - as it had some time ago, so he has signed for Pompey for a fee believed to be £9m.

He told sky sports news when waiting for the deal to go through: 'I can't wait to be honest. I want to get it done and get my boots on. I'm happy.

'For the rest of the season I want to get as many goals as possible, and most importantly get three points and just do well for Portsmouth'.

Finally Defoe has signed - I think! - after Harry Redknapp had been trying for so long to get him. I am delighted by this but as I keep saying just wish we did not need to lose Benjani as a result... although this is not yet confirmed - or is it?

Defoe is a goalscorer and that is what we need so hopefully he will justify his signing and bang in the goals to make sure our season does not fizzle out, and of course to also justify the selling of Benjani if he has gone, which he has or maybe not... this is still not clear yet, but it is unlikely one would sign without the other going.

i think this deal is definately confirmed?
not yet!
yep its still to be confirmed - sky sports have just said this... d'oh!
Ha ha nobody knows. It's quite funny but will be a complete shambles if it hasn't gone through!
Just when i'm coming round to it and it hasnt been confirmed yet! Will miss Benji terribly, but i've always wanted JD here, so I suppose I cant be too sad about seeing him go.
surely both will go through... im not going to publish the benji article yet as this is way too far up in the air to do so...
how great would it be if we panicked and signed defoe before twelve, and benji didnt leave!!!!!!!!!
both put the paperwork through before 12 didnt they - if one falls through they both do... i may have to prepare a retraction on this article? altho it would just be easier to delete it 'if' it falls through...
How would that work rug, if the PL have both lots of paper work, say Benji's falls through for some reason, they still have JD's paperwork so they will process that, surely.
I don't suppose we'll see spiderman then ?
nope, he'll not be 'swinging in' this month... or will he...
What a long nite.
ive only been back home for an hour and 40 minutes and its been hectic - fair play to you fellas that have stuck to it tonight, well done!
Got eye strain, headache etc staring at this bloody laptop!!
man city definitely have that caicedo blokey, who looks good. and sturridge is doing well, he looks amazing, and they also have elano and vassell and bianchi and bojinov will come back soon, so why do they need benji?
hey..cut that out're spelling nite like a yank !
It` still speculation guys. I really hope you get your man and teach him something that he has not learned in his football career. The Damn offside Rule!
benji struggles with that too... come on fellas - who is left now - whats the felling, will it happen or will both fall through?
Can´t see that this will have one through, the paperwork had to be in for midnight which was three quarters of an hour ago and still no confirmation. He is still a Spurs player!
the paperwork for both 'apparently' went through before midnight?
i really really hope that benji stays and defoe joins too. we need someone like defoe and iv wanted him to join for ages, but i never considered beni leaving! im really confused as to what i want. i loved benji more by the day over the last 18 months, and i dont want that to just go like that!
in which case, rug, good luck to both players, i wont ever forget benjani tho. in fact i have an article stoed up somewhere in memory to the 3 influential players that have left us over the past 6 months...
I feel the same bakes. Just been over to vital spurs, many of them are gutted he's gone (if he has?) We just gotta accept it now, i've always wanted Defoe, so it has to be good....right?!
yeah, ur right 4me, (as in ur right pompey4me, not ur right for me...) yes defoe will do well, im just totally gutted that beji has gone (if he has) its like one week since he scored a hattrick at home and everyone loved him!
100% confirmed...
Hooray, we can get our heads round it now. Thanks for all your hard work Benji, Will give you a massive cheer next time you are down, Welcome on board HMS Pompey Jermain, lets get it on!
get in!! Jermaine, lets get you scoring.
im delighted by his signing - i think me and you are founder members of the 'defoeist club' arent we...
What me Rug? I've always said i want him here, so yes, i'd take that. Just needed to let Benji being the one to make way sink in tho, didnt see that coming.
hes a class act, and worthy of a place in most teams, tbh, i never saw it coming, even with all the rumous, and when I saw the interview with him, I was godsmacked to be blunt.
according to bbc, nothing on benji yet, but defoes there as rug says, whic atm is fantastic! no more moves and im in paradise!
oi i came up with the phrase defoeist
sorry russ - i thought p4me had... either way i was pretty sure that we have discussed being 'defoeists'...
or as some people might say, we have defo signed defoe. badumtsch..
lol, i think everyone will be a defoeist when he bags some goals.
Gleams, apparantly that is something he does with a few birds living around WHL. Portsmouth lock up your women JD is coming to town.
Russ, u probably were, but you were just giving us a name for our little club, Defoeist, I like it!
has the benji deal been confirmed yet?
now, time for a defoe song...
Enjoy him PFC. An absolute pleasure to have at THFC and a great goal scorer no matter who he plays for. Shame he couldn't sign a new deal. I'm excited to see the ovation he gets when you come in March. Enjoy him Pompey. I've got a tear in my eye tonight...
Thanks WHS, a lot of us here have always thought he would come one day, seemed very dignified in the last few difficult months at your place.
yep, thanks mate - im exactly the same im not ashamed to say that ive got tears in my eyes that benji has gone... im delighted that weve signed him as he is a top class footballer, maybe he is lazy but he knows where the goal is...
very emotioal losing matty, let alone benji too. but life goes on, and im sure the atmosphere on saturday will pay tribute to bebji, or at least when he plays against us next!
NIght all, eyes are hurting now.
yep fellas - im calling it day now too... i will report on jamo and johnson getting in gthe england squad tomorrow - well later today when i get up...
haha the bbc guy has gone without confirming the benji deal, im happy for a few more hours at least!
yes yes yes yes yes yes. get in. soooooo happy now.
three beers three large Brandy's stayed up til past Midnight, no wonder i missed the actual moment it became official, woke up to see re run of HR being interviewed by sky. He said that we got double what we paid for Benjii. Rug. Youve been saying it for so long now that we were getting Defoe. The King is dead, Long live the King.
plymouth graham
should've held on to the benji article a bit longer, but i'll let you off. Had a particularly **** day today but i don't mind a bit anymore. well till the end of the season at least then the merrygoround starts again.
Steve C
no it makes it even sweeter that rug published this article. i let all my emotion and anger go, only to be rejuvenated and so happy i cant sleep. so heres to rug and the other heroes that stayed up through the night.
JD will be an excellent signing for you. I hope you get the best out of him, he's a real talent. Shame he didn't really get a go at Spurs.
Oh, I forgot to say that even though he hasn't really had a chance in the last two years for us, whenever he came he DID score goals and he will for you! Good luck JD.
Will he demand to start match after match? If he doe's he may upset the applecart.
Well if only we knew how this was going to pan out.. So Defoe comes to Pompey on the news that Benjani has signed but waking up the following morning.. we find Defoe is a Pompey player and Benjani is Still at Pompey .. We now have Benjani, Defoe, Baros, Kanu, Nugent... Striker problem.. what striker problem !! - will Our Harry play 4-3-3 to keep them all happy ?? - Still can't believe what has happened ...
I think the answer Chix will be to play Benji wide right and sell Utaka. We now have the England goalkeeper, a solid back four, two quality international strikers BUT it is in midfield where we have our strength. Happy days eh!!
i would hope he wont demand to start... but i feel certain 'arry will start him every match...
so, in all honesty who 'genuinely' think 'arry and/or benji wanted this to happen...
From a spurs fan, i think u got a wicked signing and u look to have a great team now , i hopeu make europe this year, i will look forward to watching pompey this year!!!
A long night indeed. It has been one of the best Jan transfer windows for some time!!
will it ever happen
Too Good For Spurs....Good Luck To Him...!
The BBC cut what I had to say about JD in my interview because Kevin Day fluffed his lines in the freezing conditions bit I said 'we need a natural goal scorer with pace and he is the best around' I still believe that and now he is ours!!
