The final hour...

We are now in the final hour of the transfer window, Jermain Defoe is waiting to become a Pompey player, but this cannot happen until Benjani completes his move to Man City.

Both deals should go through, but it looks as though we could be going down to the wire here... Defoe's paperwork has apparently arrived with the FA, so all has been agreed with him, however Benjani is still to undergo his medical and it could be touch and go.

I would be delighted to see Defoe 'finally' sign, but am devastated that Benjani is leaving - both deals are dependant on the other going through... so one will not happen without the other?

Nor me, and my mobi has been on all night, thought i was going to be up front with defoe!

not quite done yet rug, the defoe paperwork has arrived at the FA but benjani SKY said 3 mins ago has only just arrived at man city training ground, this is not long enough for a full club insurance medical. The issue is we need to sell benji to raise the cash for defoe but if the benji deal runs out of time, we will have an unhappy player back at the club and so will spurs. After all that chasing it is you would think it unlikely that we would pull out of the Defoe deal but city dont want to be rail roaded by pompey, harrry and sven are not mates, so there is a small chance you may just get your wish of Defoe and Benji, this i think it would be fair to say a very satisfactory outcome.

as i say tho russ - defoe deal complete, we just need conformation on benji deal - its going to be touch and go... as you say tho we'll have *****ed off players at both sides if all goes belly up...

What I find weird is that Defoe agreed terms with us about 21:15. Benji didnt didnt turn up for the apparent medical till 11:10, where was he for that hour and a bit?

How can a club sell its favorit player, its motivator, its running machine, I can say? I´m completely shocked. Yes you want to bring your club forward but YOU HAVE to keep the players who are giving their sweat and blood for the club every week and no one represents that more then Benjani at the moment....it is simply a ridiculous decision, very sad moment for portsmouth

when a club accepts and offer for you it shows they will let you go - so clearly they do not want you as much as you thought, so if he has to come back he will be *****ed off that we were happy to sell him - i dont think it will fall through anyway, its like the o'neil thing with boro...

im delighted that defoe is signing - ive been saying since the summer i was 'convinced' he would sign, i think the fella is a goalscorer that will bang 'em on for us, yep he wont be benjani but we need goals...

granted that defoe is a good signing, its just whether two striekrs with less than a weeks experience with the rest of the squad can play against teasm like chelsea and be as effective as someone like benji, who has been with us for 18 months...

It's a new beginning guys. Time to get over Benjai, sure we all love him but we've got the best out of him and I think we'll be better with Defoe and Baros. Not in a million years did I think we'd have signed either. Benjani is at his peak and WILL NOT continue his rich form with Citeh.

I also dont like the ideas of players being replaced like if it was the most normal thing to do. You come today, you go tomorrow, one milions here another million there, thats b*******t, and at the moment this is becoming a habit with Portsmouth. Look at benjani, he only got better once he started to root in the club and its the same with others, you can think of selling Nugent after 5 months because he played badly or Muntari because he is good etc, a good team yes to can just put together but an excellent team needs to grow and you can see arsemal today you could see ajax yesterday, those players have been together for ages. And now that finally Benji is showing his best but................

yep matt i also want this deal to happen now - that is not to say i ant benji to go... in all honesty if sacha 'really' does have as much money as it is said - despite having to balance the books - why do we need to sell him to sign defoe... i would have rather paid up kanu and got shot and kept benji!

Cracking goal that Benjani scored against Derby that SSN keep showing. I'll miss his celebration so much but ahhhhh new times people. I can't believe we've got Defoe.

sky confirm the both deals are done, the paperwork went through just before mid night, so i suppose its a case of the king is dead long live the king, i cant help but think we have made a mistak thinking he can play alongside baros. spurs are only grizzly because they have no cover they even call him lazyD. We arent good enough to carry players, so lets hope someone can change Defoe'sattitudes and make him work a bit, anyway its done he is a pompey player so i hope we will get behind him

Rug to say that "loyalty doen't belong in football anymore" is absolute crap. Loyalty belongs everywhere-at home,at work, everywhere.Just because it is rarely shown in football ( The fans at MAN U with Sir Alex are an exception) doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. We now have Benjani, Defoe, Baros, Kanu, Nugent... Striker problem.. what striker problem !! - will Our Harry play 4-3-3 to keep them all happy ?? - Still can't believe what has happened ...
