Spurs and Pompey agree Defoe fee
Pompey have had an offer accepted for Jermaine Defoe by Tottenham. Fact.
The press association have reported that a fee has been agreed, and now its up to Defoe to agree terms and agree to come to the South Coast.
The fee is thought to be in the region of £9m, this is alledgedly to be offset by the sale of Benjani to Man City, this rumour first surfaced during last nights defeat to Man United, and will not go down well with Pompey fans.
To bear a comparison for Pompey fans, remember the disgust of Newcastle fans when Andy Cole departed for Man U?
Their disgust was soon tempered by the new partnership of Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer, who is to say that Defoe cannot be the man to bring us European football, heroes come, heroes go, new heroes will always turn up.

Evening fellas... I've been watching all day but had to work so couldn't join in ... Benjani to Citeh ! and we get Defoe ? The Thomas loan deal is off .. Is that right?, Kanute is still a rumour and no sign of Spiderman ..... Is there anything I've missed ??

yep being left out of the england squad whilst other pompey players got picked seems to have swayed Defoe, although according to reports from france he is apparently still waiting for a last minute "big club" to come in for him. so we even now are last minute .com for him.

some weeks back russ and i were discussing that Nugent would probably benefit from playing up alongside an out of out striker, which is why until spurs manager oneday left "lazy" JD out i thought crouch would be the one. do you think Defoe can play as a team player will he lay the ball off?

Sorry to see Benji go but I think it is the right thing in the long run. He is 29 at his peak, half of his goals have come at home against Reading & Derby. There are others who can do the hard work that he does. He wants to leave in a couple years & we get very little then. Forget all the crap, Defoe is a top striker & once Harry manages him he'll be great. We have to leave sentiment behind. Yes, it is a shock to lose Benji, as it was with GON & Matty. Time to move on gents.

Defoe will be a great addition to the team, and he needs to play week in week out if he harbours any ambition of playing for England.
I think Capello has made himself clear, if you are not playing regularly you will not be in the squad.

Chalton not keen on a Thomas loan so Harry has said he's not keen.. and Spurs and Pompey HAVE agreed a price it's up to Defoe now.. but I don't think we'll see Benji & Defoe in the same Pompey team unfortunately ..

new era, but so much has been said about benji, he is a legend, but he aint a goalscoring machine. 12 goals, dont get me wrong, is nothing short of brilliant, but 6 have come in just 2 matches, and both agaisnt lower teams, and the other 6 spread out. Defoe is allso 4 years younger, so I a,m happy.

when i originally raised the andy cole comparison it was that Harry can be so obsessed about buying a player that it becomes a personal thing for him even if that player does not fit, just like he was with Andy Cole. he jas been desperate to get back the lazyD since he left west ham. TA always said you start defence from attack something Cole would never do and i oersonally have my doubts about defoe doing it.

however, having said that, if benji does leave (almost certainly), i will be EXTREMLY dissopointed with the club, as i thought they had reached a new level of profesionalism, however there treatment of gary over the summer, just dumping him without letting him know, offering toddy the same deal as mbesumba was disgraceful, not playing matty taylor becasue he doesnt get on with harry was a shambles, and now selling benji the day after he said he wanted to stay at pompey for the rest of his career is just riduclas. i cant sum up in words how i feel at the moment.

Come on everyone, Benji has become a pompey legend! He has the heart of a work horse, and has been vocal about how he loves the club, the fans, the manager etc. But dont forget next season he is 30, we have to look forward. I am not saying I am happy about him going, nor would I say I was happy about GON and Matty, or even Toddy! But we have to have faith in HR. Dont forget he blew Newcastle out a couple of weeks ago and I dont think he would stitch himself up as I am sure he has a few things on the go. I have faith in the guy, maybe a blind faith, but I dont think booing, or anything but getting behind the playing staff is what we do!

Absolutely agree with you carpet.I thinkPompey's behavior towards its players is a disgrace and will backfire very soon. If you were any of our players loan or otherwise would you sign for next season with Pompey if a similar offer came from another club. I think not. I said last week we will struggle next season if HR and Sasha are in charge as we will have a mass exodus of players and find it hard ro get new ones who are any good. Fortunately I don't think either of them are going to be there. RE booing or whatever- I don't mind if there is silence, placards,you "moon" them or you sinply don't go to the game, as long as supporters of Benji, Taylor, Toddy and O'Neill show they disapprove of what has been happening. Trust and loyalty or lackof it will make or break the club.

So Defoe comes to Pompey on the news that Benjani has signed but waking up the following morning.. we find Defoe is a Pompey player and Benjani is Still a Pompey player... We now have Benjani, Defoe, Baros, Kanu, Nugent... Striker problem.. what striker problem !! - will Our Harry play 4-3-3 to keep them all happy ?? - Still can't believe what has happened ... Is this the end of it do you reckon ?
