A frantic day ahead...

Pompey up for sale, players are being linked with moves away, others with moves here - I think despite all the 'hush talk' there is a lot of frantic activity going on behind the scenes at Portsmouth Football Club and we could yet see some movement both way - my early worry is that we might not like what is going out...

Where do I begin?

Well the takeover talk seems genuine enough now - and it would appear that someone, or a group of people will be taking over from Sacha Gaydamak in the not to distant future as he does seem as though he is willing to sell up and move on to pastures new.

Whoever it is, the thought is they have 'plenty' of money available for mass strengthening of the team - without the needed sales to go with it - and funds to make the plans for a stadium and so on possible, provided we get the planning permission?

Now on to transfer talk for today - so far...

Man City appear to be very keen on Benjani by all accounts, and have approached. The fear is - and the information that I have - that he could be sold, as he might well need to be to fund other moves!

Another thought is that almost incredibly Harry Redknapp would let Benjani leave, as he 'might' have to in order to fund a move for Jonas Gutierrez or - another link that has resurfaced today - he will have to sell him to make a last ditch bid for Jermain Defoe.

If Benjani was allowed to leave in order for either to come to Pompey it would be complete and utter madness, and I would say that if he were sold he would be the one that could be 'the straw that broke the camels back' in relation to those 'fans favourites' that have been sold over the months...

Another suggestion is that Lauren plus £5m in cash have, or even will be offered to Real Mallorca for Gutierrez - but that cash could also come from selling Benjani?

The 'frightening talk' is that all deals that 'might happen' today seemingly hinge on us being willing to part with Benjani - we may as well kiss goodbye to this season if we did in my opinion no matter who arrived...

Who knows what will happen today, but hold on tight it could be another turbulent day ahead for Portsmouth Football Club and us - the fans!

As per my email to you Mr Rug, i dont believe a word of the Sasha stuff, and i extend that to the Benji rumours. Utter rubbish, probably started by a jealous Scummer forum somewhere.

Never any smoke withoit fire Midge. Benji great as he is, is probably at his peak. That means peak price. As long as we get in better it shouldn't be a problem. 5m is a bit low.

well Midge ive had no email from you mate so i dont know what you said, all i know is what you have said above... i know you arent having a pop at me - well at least i hope not - but i dont come out with the stuff, i just write about it to see what people think - if it isnt 'believed' or even true only time will tell, but it does seem that sacha is going to sell? i hope to god that benji doesnt go but worry that he will be sold to fund other moves - which personally i would rather leave than sell him tbh.

please pompey, okay we're playing well, but lets not sell our 3 fan favourites in the space of 6 months. benjani is amazing, we need him, baros didnt seem up to it yesterday, i have no doubt that he will come good, but why buy nugent for 6mil and not play him, then sell our best player for 5mil. ridiculous

This is Portsmouth Football Club; anything is possible, nothing is improbable, there are no highs which, in an instant cannot become soul destroying lows. In 1898, to paraphrase Douglas Adams, the club was fitted with the infinite improbability drive and it has been guiding Pompey ever since. It's a roller coaster but would you swap it for the boring, turgid, repetitive, ar*se lickingness of Man Ure? I wouldn't. I was cringing at the dribbling commentators, last night, who were unable to find even more super superlatives. Made my toes curl. Give me the dynamic, unpredictable Pompey every time. And if that includes selling players we like then so be it. If it means being owned by Asians or even martians, who cares. if it means a return to the Fizzy Pop Championship then bring it on. All that matters is that we have our club, a real football club, warts and all. Success is a bonus. which I will take if offered but battling for the League Two title is fine too. We are Pompey.

'reports', 'rumours' or 'suggestions' do not mean that 'we will' sell benji tho do they - if we did, and for a poor 5m that would be ridiculous. baros needs games to get fully match fit and back up and running - lets give him say 2 or 3 games to get settled.

as much as i have wanted defoe it would be bad if we sold benji to get him... besides we wouldnt sell him for 9m and get defoe for 8m would we...

pompeyrug: The french news say that is done, then i don't know, i don't have more information, but it is normally a really good, really serious site, so i think it is true.

Any news of Benjani leaving would be sad news indeed....even if we sold him and received Defoe and 1 million in exchange. We would miss his passion and workrate up front almost instantly; yes Baros and Defoe are capable of finding the net, but they need someone alongside them complimenting their play (Keane did this for Defoe) and doing the leg work (Nugent runs about a great deal, but the end product's not there at the moment). Trying to look at it from the point of view of the man paying the bills, that kind of money for a 29 year old who while having a fantastic season is not thought of as a natural goalscorer, would seem very tempting perhaps. Can only hope they realise what the lad means to the fans and tell Citeh where to go.

all very true points Tantona, everyone has a price but benji is something else isnt he and something different to so many other players. out of every 'fans favourite' he is probably - in my opinion - right up there as one of the best, possibly the no.1... i would be devistated to see him leave even if he went for 9m...

As much as love (in a manly way!) Benji - a straight choice between him Defoe in the team is no-brainer!! I agree with Et tu, except for bit about the fizzy pop league! I yearn for success at the highest level, and if that means favourites leave and better players arrive, then I am all for it!

It seems that recently we have been left with these tear wrenching decisions. To let our heroes go and replace with better players or stay as we are. I think we all were happy (well most anyway) with Diarra for Matty and Diop for GON but Defoe for Benji?

I haven't had a look at others comments but the way the spiral of players and rumours that is rife in todays game sickens me to somewhat. There is little loyalty, the glory of playing for a bigger side, and now a Chairman who in all honesty is a bloody investor who wants his cut ; his dividend. O.K. they invest heavily, but they want that return. It is true to say that without the funds we will dry up quicker than the Murray Darling Basin in Australia. The sad fact remains, if the confidence, and therefore the money behind us, begins to fall, then so do we. Do we want to be another Nottm Forest or Leeds Utd. who I have to ask have had a better day in the sunshine than ourselves. When freefall happens it comes very quickly and as Pompey supporters I think we know when that happens, and only too well. Do we want another 1979/80 fight to win promotion from the 4th Div....but yes it could happen as soon as 5 years from now. So my friends, let's move forward, but I can guarantee you that if we don't have a NEW STADIUM soon we don't need to have one when we are playing teams like Aldershot on Boxing Day ??????
