Gaydamak ready to sell?

The Times Online is reporting that Sacha Gaydamak has put Pompey up for sale.

Gaydamak arrived 2 years ago, buying a 50% stake in the club from Milan Mandaric for £15m - with his investment we were able to stave off relegation and have since moved on from there.

18 months ago Gaydamak paid a further £15m to Mandaric to assume full control of Portsmouth Football Club, but it is now 'said' that he is ready to sell up and is standing to make a tidy profit - even after the money he has paid out - with the asking price said to be £60m, which seems a bit 'low' to me to be honest?

The 'lack' of investment and the finances that he does have has often been criticised although personally I think that he has spent money - not only on players but other areas of the club to try and take us forward - however is is 'said' that on closer examination he might not have spent as much as it might have looked, as plenty of players have also been sold with it claimed that over half the money spent on players has also been recouped by the selling of others - still harsh if you ask me as he must have shelled out a fair few quid on us!

The report says that the reason for him wanting to sell up - if he does - is not know but it could have something to do with the cost of financing a new ground, it is also said that one potential buyer has shown an interest but no formal talks have taken place.

It has often been suggested that his father had been bankrolling him, but this has always been denied and nothing proved. If he does sell up he would become the first investor - in the current trend - to have bought a club, to have then sold them at a profit...

To be honest I am a little sceptical about this as it seems an 'odd' time to sell doesn't it?

Like Aussie said we're worth more than £60m. Krancjar - £8m+, Diarra £7m+, Benjani £8m+, Distin £5m, Johnson £7m+, Muntari £10m+… that's £45m just on those players.

Now for all of you who said I was nuts. The Times has just reported that Pompey is up for sale for 60 million. Right that we are up for sale although they are 12 months behind me in saying so. Wrong with the price. It is closer to 160 million. Two interested parties , one Arab and one Chinese ( thats my info not from the newspapers) both have the money and huge resources. Rug will confirm that I gave him the information before the start of the season.
frattonaussie
yea 60 million seems way too little for pompey, especially since it would seem that he bought the club for 30-45 million and he has spent a bunch on players so its a little odd. Either way pompey is on the way up and whoever buys the club they will have money and they will look for the club to progress so I cant see there being too much of a change from the current situation
whitestones
If the buyer come from one of the 2 sources I am aware of then money will be no object and things will move forward at a rapiid pace.

Nothing should surprise us. If Sasha wants out, fine, but he has to sell to a bigger fish. If he makes a profit fine. The worry would be a fire sale of players during the summer if the club hasn't been sold. HR going & still no new ground. Only a few concerns.
storagematt
please, please, please. this doesnt sound good. however if we get someone richer, im not moaning. but would sacha want to sell benjani, get a few more quid, then bugger off? lets hope not...

Storeage matt. I posted last week that at least 6 squad players woul go in the summer break. If the club is taken over by the consortium who I believe, and predicted months ago would be the buyers, then it won't be a concern as they will simply buy better players. The biggest casualty will be HR who will be left in the cold as they won't take over his contract. As i said in my earlier post in this article-I told you all this would happen before the season began. I reiterated it over the last few weeks and said we needed a consortium takeover as Sasha didn't have the cash needed. Most of you had a go at me.Was it just coincidence that the players we have bought or been linked with this tranfer period were not African Citizens but were French, Eastern European, Scandinavian and Asian. Sasha need a multinational, politically correct club to attract the most interest.

This is really worrying - who will come in, what will happen to the team - to the stadium plans? It could all go from strength to strength but it could all go horribly wrong. Just when everything's going well and we appear to have a bright future, this happens.

tbh frattonaussie it could be viewed as 'arry knew investors were coming - if they are - hence he stayed here, he wouldnt have done so if he knew this and felt he was under threat, he would have gone to newcastle - and rightly so in that respect...
pompeyrug
ok, it could ahppen, and for 160 million, it wouldnt surprise me. BUT, i dont think it will - just my personal opinion - and the reason no africans have arrived is a) becasue we have the best of them, and b) they are all at the ACoN, so it wouldnt solve our problems anyway. but reasliticly, anything can bhappen, but my one concvern in all this is benji.
pompeycarpet
frattonaussie obvviously you are enjoying your limelight, so come on put us out of our misery who are these consortia? working for a developer i am aware of the rumours of partner discussions with Sellar, QIB and mansour, but you obviously have gold mine info... bl0ody hell its not you is it?
russellm
the benji sale would seem to confirm we have given up any chance of uefa footy, we have spent our season building a team around him "because it gives us better balance" and now it doesnt. Defoe is not the one man up front player, as one spurs supporting pundit ssaid " he is economical with his effort" Harry doesnt rate the injured nugent and surely the even slower kanu cant be the answer
russellm
i understand from our company NBDM the reason he wanted to sell is a chunk of the new ground funding was to come from the development of fratton park and surrounds, the problem is with the credit crunch and falling house prices he cannot raise sufficient funds for the Capex
russellm
& finally NBDM is new business development manager not one of those "special party types"
russellm
Russell m, if you refer back to article Pompey dismiss Sacha selling Talk, you will find Tracyc asked the same question and the answer is posted there. No I don't workfor a developer but every development or project needs cash and sourcing the sort of money required reveals far more than you would otherwise divulge. Anyone who has borrowed money for a mortgage knows that.
