'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No.9 wants to fire us into Europe

Finally we have the no.9 we have been waiting for since the departure of Svetoslav Todorov with the arrival of Milan Baros, after it was confirmed this will be his number.

Only time will tell if he is the 'no.9' we have been waiting for but he is already saying the right things, and as he has told The News he feels he is the man to 'fire us into Europe': 'it's good to be back in the Premiership and I'm happy to be at Portsmouth. It was an easy decision for me.

'I am here to help the team and help the club achieve something.

'The dream is to get into Europe - that is most important for every player, including me.

'Everyone here wants to do that and there is not a big gap between us and the European places.

'After these next two games we will have played all of the top four clubs. Of course, it won't be easy to qualify for Europe, but we can do it'.

I have been pretty vocal in my thinking that he is a very good signing - a loan signing at that even better. A loan signing of his quality will be hard to better in the coming days, and if anyone can get a better quality player than him on loan before midnight on Thursday I would be surprised.

Baros seems likely to make his Pompey debut at Old Trafford tonight against United, he would become an instant hero if he could help us gain something there wouldn't he...

Good to hear the positive sound bites but scoring the goals is what we want to hear.
storagematt
Lets hope he does! I just won freebie tickets on the radio to the Chelsea game this morning (Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!) - so a couple of goals on Saturday would suit me just fine!!
tracyc
yep he's talking the talk now lets see if he can wlak the walk... something which i think he can tbh.
pompeyrug
congratulations tracyc - im not envious much, you'll see us beat chelski for the 1st time in the premier league! i could always take the other ticket you have if you want :-) enjoy the game - im sure you will - and lets enjoy it tonight, im well up for it now and have a godo feeling about it...
pompeyrug
I'll be quite happy to get a draw against Chelski, having lost all 9 of our previous prem matches.
storagematt
we deserved a win against man u and chelsea earlier in the season, so now is time for the payback. even better that tonights game is on tv, so all the manure fans can eat their own words.
jbaker
does anyone know whether capello is watching this game? perhaps hes going to chelsea - reading, and sky+ ing our game. i hope he just watches us. gj for england
jbaker
im pretty sure that capello is at old trafford tonight mate - he is meant to be taking a look at jamo, who was also watched at the weekend. another blinder from jamo and he will not only be in the squad he will be a nailed on no.1! johnson will hope to impress too.
pompeyrug
Dont know if he will ever fill the boots of Toddy in the no 9 role
brewster39
johnson and jamo SHOULD both be in the england squad, at least, and jamo SHOULD start. will baros fill toddys boots? well, they are pretty big boots to fill, but he has the potential, he just needs to ressurect his liverpool form!
pompeycarpet
LOTS of room for improvement there...
pompeycarpet
nope, he'll not be the next toddy - there is only 1 toddy... we cant write him off after 1 game, as he needs games to get match sharp but he will need to improve of he will be no better than anything we have tbh...
