'Arry would like one more striker

Harry Redknapp has told The News that with Dave Nugent and Kanu both injured and unlikely to be available for a while that with only Benjani and Milan Baros currently available to him he would like another striker, but does not think he will get one: 'Baros will be available for Manchester United and we need him.

'There's only Benji here and he's playing with a little bit of an injury as well.

'Nugent has no chance and Kanu's done a knee as well - quite badly I think. He's going to see a specialist in France.

'I'd like to get another striker in but I doubt it very much.

'It's like everything. The owner has spent good money. He's backed me and been terrific, really, so you can't keep asking.

'It's difficult but he's been very supportive. We've got Baros and Benji and we will push on.'

John Utaka would give him another option up top, and 'might' be back in time to face Chelsea at the weekend if Nigeria get eliminated from the African nations today.

From the youngsters that we have we could always turn to Danijel Subotic if needed, with it being my thinking that he is the most likely youngster we might turn to this season - despite it repeatedly said he is 'one for the future'.

It would not surprise me if another striker did arrive, as you can never say never - particularly with Pompey - but I am not expecting this at all.

Beji flew home and played for Pompey straight after landing as he is Pompey till i die lol. So if Nigeria go out tonight, surely utaka will do the same, land in manchester tomorrow morning, and ready to fight the Red devils tomorrow night. lol

Harry Kewell was going to Fulham for 1.5 mill that fell thru.At that price or a loan he would be a good left wing.Kranjcar over to the right and Utaka as a striker. Kewell only has to last 6 months.

Quality over quanity.

Aussie I think if that was really true, HR would be one of the first on the list to sign Kewell. I still think there will be one more.
stillthewhizz
how long does it take to fly from ghana to manchester? im not saying that utaka 'isnt commited' to pompey but if it as pyhsically possibly do you reckon that he would?
pompeyrug
i heard something about kewell and a mvoe to fulham the other week - at the time i said i was amazed that they could get him on a free - which was the suggestion at the time... agreed whizz, if kewell was available i think 'arry would be making an 'enquiry' about him...
pompeyrug
you can never have too many strikers ;-). I have a feeling we will see one more arrive, but im not sure who it will be, as we STILL arnt really being linked to anyone particaully intresting...

Who love another striker to come in, but reckon we are more likely to see Utaka fill the gap and who knows he could be wat we are looking for if played up front rather than on the wing... Would like to see Robotic given a go if we get really stuck though... but doubt it will happen...

Early in the summer break I reported that Viduka was looking for a move. The response from posters was the same a it has been for Kewell. When did we try for Viduka; when it was too late. I knew he was looking, despite denials from his club, months before that. At the same time Kewell was looking and they were interested in playing on the same team. The response from posters was negative because Kewell was still recovering from injury and because they thought it was bs. Harry should have known they were available or choose to look elswhere. Kewell is still available but Fulham have been the only club to make an approach but couldn't meet his demands and he doesn't want to be in London. He comes from a town noy unlike Portsmouth.

viduka people realised wuld be leaving from a very early stage - it was why boro were so reluctant to let yak go! kewel i wont be negative about, as to be perfectly honest, i have never seen the fella play (well, i might have, but he was definatly not a stand out performer)
pompeycarpet
on his day kewell is one of the best players around - if he could avoid injuries for long enough he could do a crackin' job here if he would sign.

I think getting another striker would be a mistake, sure we are missing one now with nuge and kanu injured, but what happens when they come back, and we play 451 half of the time, it wont work. We need a right midfielder and if we get one utaka can come cover upfront and we can see what he's really about. As for kewell he was a great player but injuries have really hurt him lately, if we could I would get him on loan or on a free immediately, at 29 he is still pretty young and if can stay healthy he would could prove to be a real asset for this club

Kewell will be 100% by next season. At the moment a lot of his problem is in the mind not the body. He was out for so long and got bad advice to start with that he is starting to imagine soreness that isn't real. He needs to finish the season by coming off the bench and then a full pre season training schedule to give him his confidence back. Then you will see a top player.
frattonaussie
kewell and viduka are both good players, but gutierriez would do just as good without moving kranjcar out of his "normal" position. i think i'll start blowing the trumpet for english players that we should sign...
