Kranjcar - James is the best...

Kranjcar - James is the best...

...well certainly the best keeper that Niko Kranjcar has ever played alongside as has told the Pompey Site after the keepers heroics saw us beat Plymouth yesterday: 'we weren't on top of our game and they dug out an extra yard. It was hard.

'We shouldn't be going behind early in games like we have in the last two, but we didn't drop our heads and fought back.

'But Jamo allows the team to have an off day and keeps you in the game with his great saves. We could have gone 2-0 down against Plymouth - and Derby a week earlier.

'He's a massive, massive player for us.

'I think he's the best goalkeeper I've ever played with. His form is outstanding. It's everything - anticipating crosses, saving shots, one-on-ones: he gives you a lot of confidence'.

We were not very good yesterday - that is not to take anything away from Plymouth as they were very good - and although Lassana Diarra is rightly being given all the plaudits from an outfield point of view James made several fine saves that not only kept us in the game, but then kept us ahead.

Fabio Capello names his first England squad this week - I think - and he will surely find it hard not to pick him in this squad.

but has fabio actually seen him/pompey play live, ever? Jamo is surely Englands No. 1, but he is still old, and it is only a friendly. if i were picking the team, it would have joe hart in goal, with jamo on the bench.

if jamo isnt going to be the keeper in many ways is it even worth him being inolved anymore? he has already said that he doesnt want to basically be 'a goalkeeping coach' which he was under spineless... capello must have seen jamo play, and you can bet your last penny he will be at old trafford this week... i still dont by into the 'he's too old' school of thought, he is 37, but you wouldnt think it. joe hart is a fine prospect tho.

I agree I dont see much in having him there on the bench, if they chose to go with youth then go with youth, its silly to keep calling him up and never giving him a chance to play when he clearly deserves it.

He had a good yesterday, I'd rather he wasn't that busy but when he is called upon you know it's going to take a great strike to beat him or another deflection.

Just didnt appreciate how good he is until he signed for us and we see him every week! TBH, he is so fit that he could be Englands no. 1 for at least the next 2 years, dont you think?

i was exactly the same as you mate - i thought he was good but not that good until his latter days with city and his whole time here! also fully agree about the thoughts on him being england no.1 for the next 2 years...

I think Niko has just reiterated everything we all know about Jamo, he instills confidence throughout the team

jamo is the best keeper around, BUT this is just a friendly, so i would play youth. theres no point in friendlys if not to try out different players!

James is a great keeper and has saved Pompey from defeat on several occassions. I don't think he will be in the England dquad, this is a rebiuding phase not a go back to the past stage. James will end his days with Plymouth but that wont be for another 3 seasons.

It'' be interesting to see what kind of squad Fabio selects... He may nt want to 'rebuild' he just might want to 'change' and he does have a reputation for using the best available irrespective of age.. I've no idea what he'll actually do but I agree if he does select Jamo it (hopefully) will be so he cn feature in his plans rather than just warm the bench...
