'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Marlon King in the frame?

An apparent new arrival in the 'linked to Pompey queue' - although he has been linked in the past - is Marlon King.

The Watford striker looked destined for Fulham after a £5m fee was agreed but he failed a medical because of a previous knee injury, which is said to have not pleased him so now Pompey are 'said' to be making enquiries.

I am not sure on this one fellas, I think it could be possible but the thought of paying £5m for a fella who has seen a transfer to another top flight side - and a side struggling at the foot of the table at that - does not really appeal to me that much, remember Ricardo Fuller and previous problems with injuries he had before we signed him...

Yep, he is a good footballer but as much as he looked like he 'might' make the grade in his limited time in the top flight with Watford last season he does not have that experience that would seem to suggest he would be anything other than 'a gamble' - and I am not sure Harry Redknapp would want to take this risk on a striker... again.

Speaking of 'knee injuries' the one that Kanu picked up playing for Nigeria in the African nations the other day could rule him out of the rest of that tournament and possibly some weeks after - but this is yet to be confirmed.

If it is true that Harry is enquiring about King I will bet the converstaion is like this " look we will do you a favor and take him on a free loan until the end of the season to show he is fit. By the way we will have the option to purchase him for 2 million at anytime up to the start of next season. Oh yes and if he breaks down again you will have to pay his wages until he is back in our first team.I'm HR so it is just my generosity coming out to offer you such a sweet deal. Is that MY lunch bag over there?" All said tongue in cheek but apart from the lunch bag (Harry takes leftovers to work) I don't think the essence of it will be too far from the truth.

Re Kanu; I'd never wish bad on anyone and if he is really hurt I hope he takes it careful for his recovery and doesn't rush back to soon. End of next season will be fine. As a matter of interest: if any player is injured in the African Cup or in any international match, who pays for the medical treatment, getting him back to his club if he needs special attention, his wages while he is injured, and compensation to the club for the injury and having to buy a replacementplayer?
frattonaussie
Not convinced about Marlon at all. Another very good championship player but not a top player for a top 10 Prem team. Injury prone to boot.
storagematt
Yeah lets not go down the Championship route again for a top striker. We haven't got time to see if they make it ala Nugent.
stillthewhizz
i couldnt tell you what the score would be regarding who 'covers' costs encured by kanu's injury - but i would think it will be pompey, not the nigerian fa or anyone else?
pompeyrug
agreed fellas king isnt the man we are looking for - not keen on ameobi or zamora but would rather we took one of these... i still reckon we will get someone 'good' tho, and baros is looking the most likely.
pompeyrug
totally agree stillthewhizz, been shopping in the champioship and that got us nugent (which still could come off) but we need impact and that comes from an experienced quality prem player.
Sachas_Brother
he's a loan signing at best, besides I thought he was very close to signing with fulham
whitestones
He certainly doesn't sound like the class of player that would improve our squad. Diarra was a class signing - more like that please.
tracyc
the one i most like the sound of so far is the walcot link... and that would be yet another ex arsenal player!!!

No Harry made an enquiry for King MARTIN LUTHER not Marlon, come on lads read the papers properly!!
Owenspompey
wasnt he shot at 6:01 p.m. April 4, 1968?and i neve reailsed he played football...
pompeycarpet
Carpet- did u look that up on the net? If you go youtube u will see a video of his first goal. It's a bit hard to see as there's a lot of cloud like fog and there are pearly gates blocking the view a bit.
frattonaussie
....... a shot rings out in the mMemphis sky.... Chixys Lyrics competition... in relation to Martin Luther King of course... Marolon's not for us surely ... unless it is along the lines of how frattonaussie suggests at the top of the thread...
Chix
well 'arry has admitted he 'was' interested in kind but will lose out to fulham and wigan... good i say, but tbh i dont think we wouldl ose out to either if we 'really' wanted him...
pompeyrug
He's gone to Wigan so we can forget any interest in him now, i suppose we will be linked with Heskey or Bent now!!
Owenspompey
doesnt matter now hes gone to wigan
