'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Baros 'mulling things over'

It appears that our approach has been made for Milan Baros, with a 6 month loan deal 'said' to be in the offing, now he is just 'deciding' if he wants to come here or not.

His agent Pavel Paska - who has had plenty to say for himself recently - says that things are 'complicated' but has told the media that he 'will decide by the weekend', early next week at the latest: 'It is complicated and Milan is still hesitating.

'He will make his decision within this week or, at the very latest, at the beginning of next week.

If the fella wants football to boost his chances of going to Euro 2008, unless he has 'someone else' in mind, or unless Fred leaves afterall with the players that Lyon already have and have even added to their squad recently he probably will not get much of a look in.

I am pretty keen on him coming here, but only want him here if he wants to be here.

We only have a little over a week left in the transfer window, so he had better decide sooner rather than later as we will not hang around waiting for him - we have other targets in mind, and I do think that if the right person comes along the funds will be made available.

Yep we are not a bottomless pit, but we want the best, so if they will come here - which is the problem convincing them sometimes - we will get the best...

It's a pretty big decision to make for him they're still in the Champions League and on top of the French league. But like you said he wants to get in the Czech squad for Euro 2008 which I think he will, regardless of which club he ends up at the end of January.

firstly, i would rather have fred ;-) and secondly, whilst his record has been good, im not convinced he would set the world/premiership on fire. would he be an improvement on what we have already got? would he get in ahead of kanu? do we want him in ahead of nugent? im not convinced he is good enough for us to make the step up - sure he is a good player, but nothing new.
pompeycarpet
Yes and yes carpet. Baros just needs his ego massaged and we have the fans and manager to do that.
stillthewhizz
Just goes to show how far we have come in the past couple of years when you can ask if Baros is good enough for us!!!
steaming
kanu, nugent and baros are all different players - as much as i like nugent and hope he will be a success here personally i think that baros is an improvment on him... that isnt to say i dont think there i room here for both... kanu, well i like the fella he has been a great footballer, but i think the key work is 'has been' i think he is a spent force. he could offer something if used in the right way but tbh i have said it all season i think he would be better used from the bench... when you look at it that way stillthewhizz its big decision for him to make isnt it in all fairness.
pompeyrug
very true steaming, my own thinking is that he is and i would not question his signing - without doubt on a 6 month loan, if he isnt then we have a get out cluase dont we... even if he signed outright now i think it would be a fantastic signing.
pompeyrug
Sounds a bit "try before you buy" to me, ideal in the circumstances really
paultsmouth
i would prefer Fred, i have not checked stats yet but i don't recall Baros being a prolific scorer and thats why the both hub cap gangsters and the "we are a massive club villains" let him go. I liked and thought Berger did a good job for us but i think he went at the right time....sicknote II we don't need
russellm
without doubt i would prefer fred but he didnt prefer us did he... i could see baros being an 'inspired' signing if he come - maybe that is a bit too much?
pompeyrug
i would say "inspired" is going too far - based on my limited knoledge - but i would never refuse a loan deal for him...
pompeycarpet
it's never good when things drag on is it not good for the fans and even more importantly not good for the player
ozanne park rangers
Let's hope he doesn't tghink about it too long or he won't come. If he does come then we will play 442!

Message to Milan: Get on with it ! - or find yourself sitting on the bench while the Czech Rep takes on the rest of europe. We don't have til next week to keep the offer open - position will need to be filled by then, if not by this Saturday. Berger would be a terrific addition if the price is right. Don't forget, Krunchie could still play on the right if need be.

Baros played as the lone striker for Liverpool when they won the European Cup, and the Liverpool fans i have spoken to up here really rated him, and were sorry to see him go. His time at Villa was not that good was it, but he is a quality striker, however he either wants to be a bit part player at Lyon, or come to Fratton and play for us and help us chase a top 8 spot. Simple choice to me, and he knows his way around the country doesnt he?
Owenspompey
My old mates on Setanta Sports are reporting Storrie in France completing the deal. But then their record is not good. Owens is right he played very well for Liverpool when they won the European Cup.
eastneydave
But then so did Djimi Traore!!
eastneydave
So did Hamman!!
Owenspompey
He's a first choice striker and only one of two recognised top strikers in the Czech team - the other being Koller. So he doesn't really need to worry about getting in the Czech team - it's a given.
stillthewhizz
31 goals in 59 games though is a great record at International level.
eastneydave
We have a ready made song for him - he's got to come: There's only one . . . . . . .
Et_tu_Pompeii
how imaginative...
pompeycarpet
Loan is good enough for me.
Lysimachus
im going to go for it and say this deal will be completed in time for him to play on saturday... but i dont think he will tho. as mentioned he has alot to think about as look at what he will be giviing up - but on the other hand look at what he is potential letting himself in for, it could be something special!
pompeyrug
Would like to see him here, think we would go 4-4-2 like matt says, Milan, there's only 2 Milans!!!!
pompey4me
yea I like the loan deal, Im not a huge fan of him since he has been inconsistent lately so its a good idea just to see what he can offer to us
whitestones
What worries me it the comment 'it's complicated' .. I hope he hasn't got problems to bring with him.. we've had our fair share of those in the past. A good player I reckon and a lan deal (hopefully) will suit everybody. I just hop he does take too long and then say no !......and we miss the chance of getting somebody else
Chix
that is the worry isnt it... the 'complications' could be that lyon are maybe 'bracing' themselves for more interest in fred and dont want to lose both, or it could just be that baros isnt sure he wants to give up a chance at the title and the champions lge - but as said the sooner this is sorted the better, as if he does say no we are back to square one with even less time to play with...
