Redknapp confirms Baros interest

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Milan Baros and a possible move to Pompey, a lot of this merely paper talk and talk from his agent Pavel Paska but finally Harry Redknapp has confirmed to The News that he is indeed a target of his - his 'prime target' according to the paper: 'I'm just looking for a front man at the moment - that's the important one.

'We need more bodies up front. That was the case before Kanu went; now we've only got two. We need to strengthen there, for sure.

'Baros is a player I know. I like him and I would be interested. I think he's a good player.

'He's played in the World Cup for the Czech Republic, who are a very good team, and been a
golden boot winner in the European Championships. That's fantastic pedigree for any player.

'And you don't play for Liverpool if you are a mug. He's a top player.

'I know Peter Storrie has spoken to the people there and that's all at the moment. I don't think there's anything concrete just yet'.

I do not think that his quality and pedigree can be doubted, he did well in England last time but I still feel he will feel he has something to prove here, so if we could arrange a deal I would be more than pleased - although it is already being 'said' that an approach has been rejected?

It is looking more and more likely that any deal that we do for a striker will have to be a loan deal as despite all the talk it is not looking like we will have the funds to buy - that is unless we sell... but then again as I keep telling myself with Pompey you never know what might happen, so you can never say never.

I heard it was all paper talk & name pulling out of a hat. Difficult to believe if that is the truth or a double bluff. I don't worry to much, just pleased when it is announced officially.

off topic, but i just want to make sure can people see the new 'promo banner - join the vital pompey debate' that ive made... its working for me, and 'should' catch peoples eyes and get more involved i think... and back to this, at least 'arry is confirming an interest, so not just 'all' agent talk...

Wait and see eh Matt, thought that was my line. Baros would be a good signing young and a goalscorer. Plenty of experience too.

It is gargantuan Rug, I'm not a fan but if it gets more members why not?

It's great Harry has come out and stated his intentions with Baros. He'd be a fantastic signing for us.

Go and get him Harry especially with Kanu carried off on a stretcher, or was he just tired and could not make it off the pitch. We do not need any of the players out in Ghana to get hurt and wasnt Utaka rubbish.

Good point Owens, there have been some games this season when Kanu has been carried ON on a stretcher lol.

i didnt watch the nigeria game but i was led to believe that kanu was poor before he was carried off? the news make him out to have been the 'star performer' before his injury... that confuses me. so 'arry and co are really going for baros? if so i would be happy with that - very happy in fact!

Would like to see what Baros can do here, saw him play in the same reserves team as Berger at West Leigh Park, thought he was quick. Anyone know how old he is?

26 i think, so he 'should' be in his prime... i always rated him, seemed to go off the boil at villa but i have a villa mate who doesnt think he should have been sold. i like the fact that 'arry has admitted an interested, if this is just to try and get others thinking - crouchy perhaps? - i dont know, but i would happily see us sign baros, altho as ive already said i think a loan with a view to a permanent deal would be the best way to go, but not sure lyon are keen on that...

Ive just said on another link on the site..I really think this has some legs and always thought this isa guy who would do well under Harry's paternal leadership...No to ameobi and zamora although they could do well, but despite my constant misgivens about Nugent he did well against Derby on the Sky "Football first" 50 minutes i saw... its quite late as i write and my mind is on the fact that its not long now and we will be on our way to Fratton for the game against our local side

I agree, Milan Baros would be a good buy and another coup for our club as he is a top player. this is interesting though, does anyone know if the ban would be effective in England too? "On November 1, Baroš was arrested in France while driving at 271 km/h on a French freeway limited at 130 km/h with his Ferrari. His driving licence may be suspended for 3 years and he will have to pay a significant fine." Blimey, that's fast, pompey4me! That's about 170 mph!!!!!!!

he was top scorer at euro 2004. anyone who can do this is good enough for us

exactly mate - that is more than good enough for me, 'but that was 4 years ago' some will say, but he is still a classy player with plenty to prove so his hunger 'should' hopefully see him want to do this here?

granted he wasnt great with vill but i also know some villa fans and one doesnt think he should have gone when he did - if he want to come here i would happily have him here...

he's a good player and I would be happy to see him at pompey, also I thik he would cost a bit less than the 9 million we offered for fred, ( im thinking probably around the 6.5 million villa paid for him a couple of years ago)
