'If It's Football, It's Vital'

I am not at all keen on this one...

...and my own opinion is that I hope it is nothing more than a 'column filler' in the local Newcastle papers to be honest!

It is 'said' that Harry Redknapp - who is being linked with just about every striker there is - is thinking of 'testing Kevin Keegan's resolve' to keep hold of, and get the best out of Shola Ameobi by making an offer for him...

Yep, as I - and many others - keep saying a striker signing would be good, and I also know not everyone agrees, but we only want to sign a striker if he is an improvement on what we already have, 'links' with Bobby Zamora and Ameobi in my thinking smack of desperation.

I mean no disrespect to either, as both are good footballers, but you have to ask yourself despite Redknapp's ability 'to get the best out of players' are either - Ameobi particularly in my thinking - an improvement on what we have? My answer is no... I do not think I would be alone, even many Newcastle fans would probably also agree!

So I would rather we did not sign a striker at all rather than signed one for the sake of doing so, I would much rather persist with what we have and give Dave Nugent a decent run.

I wonder who will be served up next... Stevie Claridge must still be kicking about somewhere, even at his age I do not think he could work any less - effort wise - than some we already have, he would come cheap and could get his 1000th league game under his belt couldn't he - or did he already manage this?

A lot of hear say, treat it all with a pinch of salt until it happens. Sometimes we get a player with very little or no warning. Totally agree no point buying a player just to get us thru to May & then want better come the summer.

I'm sure someone will come in, but at this crazy time of year I expect half of what we read is generated by players' agents trying to put their charges in the shop window.

I think I prefer our existing strikers. For those on offer, one is too bling, another too tall, some too old, Fred who? and various "Star War Type" names, No thanks.

as a last resort, ameobi ON LOAN til the africans return wouldnt be a bad idea, if we didnt have the funds to support any other players...

'arry seems to be pushing the claims for baros - he has confirmed an interest, so i will add my article on that shortly... it is crazy season isnt it, i would like to think we have some cash but it doesnt look like it does it so we would have to sell before we buy and not too many will loan players will they, particularly quality players...

There's a lot of silly talk out there. I'm surprised nobody's linked us with a Sheringham return!

He's crap. Hardly the dream striker we're after.

28 goals in 168 appearances .. Not what I call a quality striker... If he comes here it'll be like we've picked up a player from Keegans skip during his clear out... This (hopefully) is just paper talk... Keegans looks to offload + Pompey need a striker = Shola to Pompey... now if it was Owen .. that'll be a different story... well a fairytale no doubt !

28 in 168...if you remove the 100, its still not amazing! no, i dont think we need him!

both him and zamora I would potentially take on loan just to add depth but Nuge is our future and if we wana make that money we spent on him in the summer worth anything we have to have faith in him and give him his chances

I think Claridge got his 1000th game, he went back to Bournemouth for a bit to lose something like 4-0 before hobbling off the pitch forever with some injury commonplace with 40+ year olds trying to play with lads half his age.

28 in 68 is a figure that i wouldnt have been too unhappy with, his is almost 1 in 5 isnt it - no amount of 'hold up play' can warrant his signing could it... as said - and as i hope - just column filler...

I reckon there is more substance to the Baros deal ..who would you rather work for HR or AP..where would you rather play France or EPL..touble is now the cats out the bag some one else might pop in there like Curbs always used to do when he was at CAFC...
