No unrest at Pompey

Pompey have quashed talk that Lassana Diarra's arrival has caused unrest among other members of the squad.

It is reported that he is on £50,000 per week - a figure that the club deny - and this amount is something that others are 'said' to be unhappy about, but Pompey spokesman Gary Double has told The News this is rubbish and he is already a popular member of the squad: 'it's absolute rubbish. Complete nonsense.

'Lassana played excellently on his debut and he will be a popular member of the squad.

'Let's just concentrate on the football rather than this rubbish'.

Clearly the fella is on good money, but you get what you pay for, but once you start giving one big money others soon want this - but you would like to think that players are not 'envious' as they all get more than enough as it is...

His signing does show the ambition that we are showing, and the further we move forward the more likely it is we will get this type of player signing and when they come in they will be on very good money - you cannot have one without the other.

Quite right in saying that you get what you pay for and if it means paying one player more for his contribution to the team then that's what has to be done. Unfirtunately it's the way of the world.... So for example; if Pompey want to pay a young prospect more or eqivalent to that of a seasoned pro then I can see nothing wrong in that..... We can't after all pay players for what they have achieved in the past, no matter how good they were.. purely as I said, as an example ;) I only have issues when they don't 'earn' it on the pitch

A message for STORAGEMATT....I guess you must be REALLY worried that we will keep that we will keep yu out of a place in Europe this year...Oh and by the way where has your dirty foreign money come from ???...Message for all other Pompey fans I think you are one of the best in the country but then again I suppose we all have one or two low life.

mate what is the point in coming on here to make a comment like that? is it really needed - im guessing something has been said somewhere down the line... cant we not just talk about football and the issue in hand - speaking of which, i agree with what you have said Chix - which i guess you can tell from what i wrote originally.
pompeyrug
pompeyrug..Only replying to what he said on our MCFC site..sorry if it offended you it was definitely meant for him.
alphieblues
didnt offend me at all mate - just surprised me... matt have you been a naughty boy again over on the vital city pages...
pompeyrug
O.K. thanks 'nuff said.
alphieblues
anyway... wasnt sol campbell meant to have been on 70,000 a week last year? and what does it matter to the players? the team pay what they consider the player deserves, and as long as he earns it on the which there can be no arguments...
jbaker
Low life, fckin cheek. I'm very tall. No sense of humour these northeners. Yes our money is probably as dirty as yours that's the point. No doubt they don't do irony up there. No offence meant to anyone.
storagematt
OK thanks we will leave it at that.

"No unrest at Pompey" - good!

and sol campbel i thought was on £40 000 a week - from a fairly reliable friend...or frineds friend...anyway, let them earn there money on the pitch, not in the media, and based on diaras performance last week, he deserved as much as/more than anyone else.
pompeycarpet
Yes, I believe Sol Campbell was on 60 or 70,000 last year and this but his salary is being subsidised by Aresnal. I don't know why but was part of the agreement. That ends this season and he drops way down. That's why he is causing a stir. He wants Pompey to pay the difference.
frattonaussie
that would explain why the papers were claiming he was on 100,000 per week, i didnt know that arsenal were helping pay his wage... still find it hard to believe he would be on 100,000. sol is minted isnt he, so why should he care anyway?
pompeyrug
..probably because dosh from his acting career (which subsidised his salary) has dried up now that footballers wives has been taken off air..
Chix
Carpet - the only reliable source on Players wages is the peson that pays them. Anything else is press speculation or chinese whispers.
