A striker will arrive...

A striker will arrive...

...well that is the thought anyway - a striker will arrive during this transfer window! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I would degree with.

Since the summer we had been hoping to see a real goalscoring striker arrive, yep have we signed strikers since but none have been that 'out and out goalscorer' that we are looking for, and what Harry Redknapp has said he hopes to get.

If we can get this striker - which if we do not it will not be the end of the world of course - then I think our chances of making it into Europe at the end of the season will be at an all time high.

The draw back is this kind of player will not come cheap; the big question is do we have the finances to fund such a move…

What the poll asked - Will we sign a striker this month?

How you voted - Yes 76%, No 24%

Current Poll - Whilst most of us tend to agree that we need a striker, not all share this view entirely.

A striker would be very nice, as already said, but could we maybe make do with what we have - and will have after the African nations - and is a playmaker really a higher priority - this is what 007 - who did not exactly submit this poll, but put the idea into my head - wants to know with this - 'what do we need more a striker, or is it a playmaker that is really needed?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

If the right is available at a sensible price then yes. We need quality over quantity & there are too many forwards misfiring to pick another dud.

plenty of talk around today of a move for milan baros - i think the player is class and would easily take him here... then again we are being linked with zamora too! berger looks like returning fellas, he should never have been sold...

lets hope one does...but WHO??? this is a difiucult one, as there are very few that fits the requirments that we need, and could push kanu/nugent out of there place behind benjani. and only about 2 (torres/drogba(?)) who could push benjani out!

A striker is a must if we are to push for Europe - Guiza, Baros or Zamora would all be ok but Guiza is surely the one that would be the best possible - The guy is quality and his record is exactly what should be looking for - If we got him, he's set the place alight I'm sure... but if we took Zamora it is a least 'another striker' and would give us another option..

We don't need a striker; we need a winger and then play everyone else in their best position and you will find we already have good strikers in the squad. Some people may not like Benji's style but doesn't 12 goals so far qualify him as a striker. How many recognised strikers have got 12. OK he got 2 hatricks but so what! if a striker gets 12 goals and they are scored in pairs or not at all, does that mean he is only half as good? 12 goals is 12 goals no matter what. We have enough down the middle and enough playmakers, we need strength out wide. The poll to vote is loaded and not balanced. Editor start again with a bigger choice and you may get a different result.

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.
