'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Redknapp singing Benji's praises

Not for the first time Harry Redknapp has sung the praises of hat trick hero Benjani with what he told The News after his treble earned us victory yesterday: 'it was good to see Benji get those goals.

'It's hard to believe he is the same player who had that diabolical goal record when he first came here.

'He is a brilliant lad. He never moans and he is hard as iron.

'He plays when he is injured and he works his socks off. He's a great lad'.

And to think some people had questioned his ability after the Sunderland game, with it even claimed that he 'must be sold'... everyone has a bad game or two, that was his. But in fairness who did play well that day?

I cannot say anything more about Benjani as I have literally shared these views and waxed lyrical about him a thousand times before, I will simply leave it at what Redknapp has said and turn the floor over to you fellas again to praise away!

One thing that I will say though, it once again showed just how much more effective that he is when played through the middle... yep, he can do the job out wide on the right but he is wasted compared to the impact that he makes through the middle.

I lied, another thing I will add is his partnership with Dave Nugent looked promising, so I would hope that this is given a little more time to flourish? I would expect this to continue against Plymouth, but the chances are Benjani will play the lone role against United at Old Trafford - and understandably so - at the end of the month.

Even without Benji's goals he's still a fantastic player and a great addition to the team. He's more of our second striker though, and we still don't have a number one striker. If we can get someone creative for the right side of midfield and a top quality finisher we can dream of Europe again.

nugent looked like just the sort of player benjani was last year - running around, getting chances, but not being able to hit a barn door from 6 hards. But with him there, doing a lot of the running around like a headles chicken, it leaves benjani with not much to do...other than score goals it would seem!
pompeycarpet
benjani for agbonlahor and 100 million?
villavillavilla
i mean u give us the 100 million
villavillavilla
bring in this missing no.9 and the world is our lobster - nuge isnt the no.9 so that is why he doesnt wear that shirt, but he still has plenty about him to suggest he has a future here in my eyes, we gave benji plenty of time so we cannot not give this to nuge... benji is a fantastic footballer, his allround game is amazing - just look at his 3rd goal, he started the move outside his own area and then ran the full length of the pitch to finish it!
pompeyrug
villavillavilla, i think that agbonlahor is a fantastic propsect and the sooner he is in the england squad the better but i wouldnt swap him for benji - fair enough you rate him highly but even in jest that is a ridiculous statement to make mate...
pompeyrug
Aston Villa didnt we go there and whip them 3-1!! Get real mate Agbonlahor great prospect but swop him for Benjani?, no chance, you will be telling us next that Villa are a sleeping giant etc, etc.

abonlahor...good player...benjani - great player... both are loved by there fans, and probably wouldnt be loved so much if they played at a different club...anyway, well done benji!

Benjani's touch to bring that long ball down from Diarra had me standing. Amazing stuff yesterday.

PR, I see we've been linked with Dani Guiza again - I rate this guy and hope that the rumours are correct this time.
Et_tu_Pompeii
yep just put something on about him mate - so you will be pleased... tbh i dont know a great deal about him, but he comes highly recommended - 5m would be a 'snip' from the sounds of it?
pompeyrug
and hes not too old. go guiza

Watching the highlights this morning, Nugent seemed better than from seat in the stand, if Benjani had missed his header for the goal, Nugent was next in line, for the hat-trick goal, it was the same, if Benji hadn't of got there first it was Nugent. Even the first goal you had Nugent pulling back to edge of the area screaming for a lay-off, maybe his turn will come next time

And why not, he took all 3 goals very well. If that had been Rooney or Berbatov or Drogba the papers & MOTD would going mad for it. But as it's only Pompey, they say well it was only against Derby. HR makes him think he is best & that confidence breeds goal. Go Benji Go. Nugent just go.

i hope you dont mean go as in leave where nuge is concerned matt? im sticking by the fella and thought he had a sound game yesterday - if he had scored that goal instead of missing i think many, many people would be thinking differently to how they are... in the prediction i had nuge down for a hat trick, but then decided against it, i had the hat trick part right, just the wrong player...
pompeyrug
well, i predicted we would loose. just shows how **** i am at predicting, i honestly cant remeber when i last got a point!!!
pompeycarpet
Benjabi took each of his goals well and I was especially plleased to see him score with his head too - I still think though that he is a second striker and although there were a few glimpses that he and Nuge could strike up a partnership Nuge is a second striker too. We need a No9 and when we get one both Benjani and Nugent will be able to work off of him.... but in the meantime Benny does seem to have his tail up ... Nugents last chance to really impress next week I think... he needs to be more aware and a little sharper in thought.. but (hopefully) he'll bag a couple on Saturday against Plymouth
