'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Congratulations to Havant

The second biggest club in the area behind Pompey - of course I mean Havant & Waterloovile - booked their place in round 4 of the FA cup after a fantastic 4-2 replay win over Swansea.

Having managed to hold the league one high flyers to a 1-1 draw in Swansea a couple of weeks back West Leigh Park was the setting of the replay last night and the Hawks did not disappoint.

Yep, they rode their luck somewhat with the woodwork saving them as it had several times in the original tie but that is the magic of the cup. After racing into a 3-0 lead, Swansea came back to 3-2 and even missed a penalty but the 4th Hawks goal killed off the tie.

This win sets them up with a once in a lifetime trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool the weekend after next. Clearly I will be fully focused on our tie with Plymouth that day - I will be at the game - but I will be listening out to how the Hawks are fairing.

It's a long old way to go to get thrashed - we only know too well about that. But congratulations H&W, enjoy the tie.
stillthewhizz
im sure they will do themselves proud on the day.

Great result -just wish that the beeb had shown the match. It was the obvious choice -i was stuck in Dublin trying to get match details off radio5/skySportsNews

Briliant for them. I was very nervous for them as the score changed to 3-2, thinking the worse, glad I was wrong. I trust they will exploit every financial avenue for the match. 2 teams in Hampshire, they'res only 2 teams in Hampshire.

It was brilliant that they managed to get the draw at Swansea but them to beat them in the replay was unbelievable - Well done the HAWKs and don't be put off by the trip to Anfield ... What have Liverpool ever done ... Small team near Tranmere.. there just a small tean near Tranmere...

2 teams in Hampshire; I feel a new chant coming on, starting this Saturday. Well done HAWKS, enjoy your trip to Liverpool and save me a ticket for the replay.

Fantastic, these boys have done brilliantly. I hope they enjoy there day, make loads of money.

Yeah well done to the lads. They may get hammered at Anfield as I expect they will send in the big guns to ensure they don't get embarressed. But hey H&W will get a good pay out which will mean an awful lot too them, and of course what a fantastic day that will be for the lads to walk out onto that pitch. You never know anyway, they might get a penalty or something and nick a 1-0.

I'm happy to say I was there - it was a fantastic game, loved every minute of it! What a fab result for the Hawks - will forever be part of local folklore. I don't expect them to get anything at Anfield, except a glorious day, marvellous memories and a fantastic experience. And the Pride of the South Coast. C'mon you Hawks!!!!

Posted this is a thread last night just after whistle went - The full time whistle has just gone at West Leigh Park and amazingly the Hawks have beaten Swansea 4-2 in a game that had everything. It sounded at absolute thriller from the first minute to the last. Once again congratulations to Havant & Waterlooville - a trip to Anfield what a reward - fairy tale stuff.

Paulsmouth asked an interesting question - is this the firat time two Pompey sides have made the 4th Round? Over to the stats boys then!!
eastneydave
It is certainly the furthest any local non league club has gone in the FA Cup. Fareham Town have reached the First Round proper on four occasions, Gosport Borough have never got past the Fourth Qualifying round and this is the furthest H&W have got. Not too sure how far the old Waterlooville got before the two clubs amalgamated but I am certain the Jubilee Park club never got past the first Round. So yes Paul it is the first time.
eastneydave
Terrific achievement. Keeps you believing in the game.

Leigh Park must be proud.

terrific!!! and the guys oin the match of the day live (westham, man city) spent ages talking about the newcastle game!!!
pompeycarpet
Yes its such a shame this has been so overshadowed by some northern club's new manager. (Who cares?) Just as all the news is at the moment - I even missed the small listing about Matt going because of it.
tracyc
Don't fancy their chances much at Anfield, but then again I didn't fancy them much at Swansea, bit of luck and Benitez will put out a reserve team
paultsmouth
TBH, paul, i think the hawks players would rather the 'big' players play, they can then tell that to thier grandkids, i played against Gerrard, Torres etc.
pompey4me
Romance of the F.A Cup. Brilliant victory and is a shame more clubs like them cant do what they have.
will it ever happen
leigh park 007, as you - and many others here know - my old stomping ground...
pompeyrug
I think the entire Liverpool team should form a guard of honour and clap Havant and W on to the pitch. Now that would be a nice gesture for such a small club.
pompeygray
Awesome result for the Hawks, finally a positive to growing up in Waterlooville (only kidding). Excellent cash injection for the club as well!
Sachas_Brother
prediction: mthe greatest FA cup upset of all time...havant to win?
pompeycarpet
Over 4,000 tickets sold already too.
eastneydave

pompeyrug
