Storrie - stop questioning ambition

Storrie - stop questioning ambition

Peter Storrie has told The News that the players that have been 'questioning the clubs ambition' basically need to shut it...

Sol Campbell has been the most vocal, but David James and most recently Sylvain Distin have urged the club to stump up some more cash to make signings this month: 'we don't talk about how the players play, so they shouldn't talk about the money the club has spent.

'How can someone like Sol go around and keep saying these things? We are one of the top spenders in the Premier League.

'We are puzzled as to why he keeps making these statements and comments. We have never, ever spent as much as we have done this season.

'Just look at the quality of the squad at the moment, just look at the progress this club is making. It's frustrating that our own players are saying this.

'I realise it shows they care, but sometimes they don't understand and make these silly statements. Some of these players have already forgotten how much we spent in the summer'.

In order to ensure that we build on the start to the season we made we do need additions this month, but at the same time we cannot forget that we did spend £30m last summer - which is a staggering amount - and there is not a 'bottomless pit of funds' available.

I can see both sides of this argument, but as much as I do want players to be signed too and hope that Sacha Gaydamak does put up some more - as we will need to sign a couple, ideally 'a few' quality players to stand a chance of doing something special this season - patience and realism of the situation at the moment are the key.

We are almost nailed on to see our first serious signing of the transfer window go through tomorrow when Lassana Diarra arrives, with it quite possible - in fact highly thought - that he and another will be announced tomorrow...

The players get asked the questions & the answer it as they think, no different to what we would do. If the club don't want to hear the answers then tell the players not to talk to the media, which of course they won't.

Agree to an extent Storage but also didn't the official site run a feature just before christmas stating that James and Campbell urge Harry to stregthen in January.. Seems odd that Sol is spotting off but seems odder that PFC are on one hand publishing it and on the other telling them to be quiet..

Yeah agree with both of you, again the press can spin it to make a headline and maybe it was inflated to try and make out there is unrest in the camp. Be intetesting though if they are genuinally keeping on, and as Peter Storrie has said we spent £30m in the summer. Would be interesting if they would also be happy to take a reduction in their over inflated salaries to help fund new purchases.

Its not surprising they question the ambition when Harry keeps saying we're only little Pompey and shouldn't expect to get to Europe, and the target this season is a top 10 finish. If we are an ambitious club, and I think we are, lets talk the talk and sound like one!

the only reason i can see storrie coming out and saying "stop questioning our ambition" is iff we are about to do something very ambitious!!! (and that doesnt mean diara). to have the players commenting that the club has a lack of ambition, or not quite the ambition they were convinced we had is bad, as it will put other players off, although could this not be a wheeze by harry to get more funds? complain in front of the players about lack of ambition, and it will only reflect on what they say to the press... HOWEVER, this season, the target has been europe - no question about it, even harry has said it a couple of times!!!

i disagree with storrie, judging by his comments made about insufficient squad, Harry would also appear to disagree with Storrie and quality players like Sol and Distin who were promised quality through out as a lure have a right to voice their opinion when oft let down. Sol also rightly remembers what happened last season when n o investment was made they are right and who really believes that Harry was not fully aware that they were making those statements and the pressure these important players can apply

I think minds should be clear here, just because we have lost a few games, and now players to the African Nations, doesn't mean we have to go pressing panic buttons. Money has been invested (or spent) and going on further spending sprees doesn't necessarily buy you success or respect. More players means a greater wage bill and possibly increases to admittance, something Pompey and their fans can ill afford. I think we have ambitions but don't the other 19 sides in the Premiership also. If we finish in the top half it will show that we are in the 50% more capable. I think the players need better communication with the board and that will end all this type of dressing room gossip.

Don't think they'd be very happy if I dissed where I worked though!

Sol has the right to his opinion. That doesn't mean he is loyal or thinking of leaving- well not until th end of the season. Storrie and others should be more worried bout the 2 white elephants we have- the training grounds and stadium. The lack of them is doing us more harm that Sol could ever do.

should be disloyal
