Peter Storrie has told The News that the players that have been 'questioning the clubs ambition' basically need to shut it...
Sol Campbell has been the most vocal, but David James and most recently Sylvain Distin have urged the club to stump up some more cash to make signings this month: 'we don't talk about how the players play, so they shouldn't talk about the money the club has spent.
'How can someone like Sol go around and keep saying these things? We are one of the top spenders in the Premier League.
'We are puzzled as to why he keeps making these statements and comments. We have never, ever spent as much as we have done this season.
'Just look at the quality of the squad at the moment, just look at the progress this club is making. It's frustrating that our own players are saying this.
'I realise it shows they care, but sometimes they don't understand and make these silly statements. Some of these players have already forgotten how much we spent in the summer'.
In order to ensure that we build on the start to the season we made we do need additions this month, but at the same time we cannot forget that we did spend £30m last summer - which is a staggering amount - and there is not a 'bottomless pit of funds' available.
I can see both sides of this argument, but as much as I do want players to be signed too and hope that Sacha Gaydamak does put up some more - as we will need to sign a couple, ideally 'a few' quality players to stand a chance of doing something special this season - patience and realism of the situation at the moment are the key.
We are almost nailed on to see our first serious signing of the transfer window go through tomorrow when Lassana Diarra arrives, with it quite possible - in fact highly thought - that he and another will be announced tomorrow...
