'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey's midfield targets

We are being 'linked' with several players - as usual - but midfielders Lassana Diarra, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Steve Sidwell are being most strongly 'linked'.

Reports in today's Sun claim that Sidwell will 'decide' between Pompey or Everton as the side that he will join on loan for the rest of the season after turning down Sunderland.

I cannot see Boateng leaving Spurs to be honest, but you never know.

However the word that I have - again as previously said I do not claim to have 'inside information' merely a trustworthy friend who has connections in media world - is that a deal for Diarra will be announced by Friday.

If the Diarra deal goes through along with a loan move for one of the others 2 players then a lot of people will question why 2 midfielders have been signed, when this area seems to be an area that is most strongest? So long as a striker can follow, and possibly a defender too I think we would be more than happy.

Arrivals would have to see some departures though wouldn't they...

i wrote this article around 10ish, but didnt publish until near 11, but the information i got about diarra was texted to me just after 7 - now sky sports are reporting that the diarra deal is 'a done thing'...

ive heard that you lads are about to sign diarra, a fantastic signing to be honest, leaves me jealous at blackburn that we simply dont have the cash to splash.
sasman
it looks like it could be the case...

Morning Rug, sounds like the Diarra deal is done and I think we will bring in one more maybe on loan in this area. With the ANC boys away we looked lightweight on Sunday. Would expect a Striker and maybe another defender on loan possibly a wing back. Departures Matty for sure, may even be Pedro if we get the above. Possibles Nugent if we can get the money, Mvuemba maybe.

We've been linked with Sidwell many times over the years, I would take him irrespective of Diarra. Everton are sniffing & they arn't stupid.
storagematt
Sidwell's OK. He's not a Harry type of player though. Short term the Diarra deal is awesome because he plugs some of the gaps left from the African boys and in the long term he should form a mean partnership with Diop and Muntari.

Sidwell ?... well those of you that read the forums will no doubt remember that I (via my brother who doesn't post because he has a wind-up computer) predicted back in November that Avram and Harry would strike up at least one deal in January.... If Sidwell comes to Pompey my bro is going to be unbearable with 'I told you so's' for the rest of the season... A good player? Yes, Could do a job for PFC? Yes, worth the earache I'll get? NO.. Sidwell please stay at Chelsea...

every time I hear of another central midfielder linked with us it makes my blood boil, we're overstacked there and although these players are improvements, there are not necessary!!
whitestones
diara a done, do we need sidwell? and boeting...i dont really care about.
pompeycarpet
i wouldnt mind KPB, i think maybe yes for Sidwell, im sure we will lose another midfielder. I dont agree with whitestones i think we need grit with quality in midfield, neither Davis, Hughes nor Pedro have both of those qualities
russellm
ok right now we have 6 central midfielders + diarra + whoever else you want to add, how do you plan on pleasing them all? perhaps you plan on playing some sort of a tactic that involves only central midfielders, hm
whitestones
err, well we play 3 anyway, its always good to have one, or maybe 2 on then bench - and that leaves 2 more fighting for places... Its not fair to say that we have 6 central midfielders, as they just dont play in similer positions...huges, davis and diop are much more defencive, whilst mendes, muntari, mvuemba are much more attacking.
pompeycarpet
Midfield is a Harry weakness- never satisfied, Warnock has an equal weakness for forwards, personally i like real ale
plymouth graham
nice one graham - oh and turn on your mobile phone, im trying to get hold of you!
pompeyrug
Sidwell is ordanairy, he is no better than Sean or Pedro so why bring him in? We need width(Routledge) and a striker not another midfield player, come on Harry we need them for Saturday.
